I came across a question last night asking the longest period of time you've been out of work. I'm looking for more specific answers though, and hopefully just more answers in general.

What is the longest period of time you've been out of work and why did you lose your previous job? I only want answers from people who were looking for employment throughout that time, or are still looking for work right now.

The longest period I was out of work was 6 months. I had a job at a pizza parlor and resigned (under the pretext of getting a TV job), but had nothing during that period. I did secure a radio gig and from that point on (1983) I was never out of work for longer than three weeks

The longest I have been out of work while I was looking for work was about a week. I am still really young so that will probably change when i get out of college.

Well, I lost my job at Jack In the Box due to them refusing to allow me time off to take my finals at college. I complained to the Area Sup. and was told that if I couldn't work my schedule, I should quit. When I threatened them with a law suit, they changed their tune, making me area trainer, but refused to give me assignments. I quit and spent more than a year looking for work. I eventually found a job with a friend of mine. He wanted to bring me in as management, but I told him that, due to my school schedule, I would work as an employee. I waited 3 years till I took a position as Team Leader and was Manager three months later.
