I don't think it's necessarily death, but how we die. We also may not want to let go of loved ones, deeds undone, guilt, etc. Besides, if you have Jesus in your heart, you know that you'll be in a better place & be with loved ones. If you don't know God, I would be afraid of death and the punishment it would bring. If you feel suicidal, please go talk to somebody, at least your preacher. If you don't go to church, find one in the phone book and explain what's going on, they will be more than happy to help you & it won't cost anything. (Besides, having a church home, you can have all kinds of friends & support.) I hope you find peace. Good luck & God bless.

IN the situation you are talking about, it's not that people are afraid of death, they are afraid of the repercussions of the afterlife after committing suicide.
That generally falls back to a reigous belief that suicide is immoral.
Most patients that I deal with who are truly suicidal, say that they don't want be the bad guy, and actually pull the trigger, but they live life on the edge enough that they are hoping an accident will happen and they will die.
Interesting concept....

I would think b/c (and this is just my opinion) the American culture doesn't teach people to embrace death and also most religions are the same way with heaven/hell. So, fearing death is due in part to religious beliefs. Just look at Mexico where they celebrate "Day of the Dead" and embrace death as the next transition from this life to the beyond.

Im not afraid of death itself.
I am afraid of dying when I'm not supposed to.
I want to die as an old man of old age.
Not when im 17 years old and havent even started life. Not when im 30 and have my own family to look after.
Thats exactly why people get ******* pissed, when a child dies. Because their not supposed to.

we are not all afraid of death, i think death is merely the goal, but only when the time is right. most of us don't kill our selfs because we feel we still have reason to live. Maybe someone or something to live for.

Not all are afraid of death, in fact many like myself accept death as a natural part of existence. Everything dies, and so shall I when my time is up.

The best way is to try to live your life. Death will come eventually. Dont wait for it. When it comes, you will not even notice it. Live in present. Do your bit for yourself, society and others.

uncertainty? doubting god? survival mechanism?
I think all these people are trying to be brave. If death was really starring them in the eye, I think all them would be scared. If some big guy broke into their house and put a shot gun to their head, don't you think they would be just a little scared?

no u don't have that feeling. it is the mind trying to drill some sense at the crucial time. also it is the animal instinct of desire to survive. though sometimes it gives up for some people.
