People hope that they can control their proclivities by joining a religion or a group that strongly frowns on these activities. So there is some self selection, and the ironic effect is that the group which preaches against the vice or crime, winds up with more than its fair share of perpetrators. There's also more tolerance in the Republican party for hypocrisy, so a deviant may calculate that joining the Republicans will help him to avoid wrongdoing, but if it doesn't, fellow Republicans will stick up for him out of party loyalty.

There is no need to explain it because their are no more republican politicians then democratic politicians who are pedophiles.
