I just got a new Mustang Shelby GT 2007. I got it 2 days ago. Yesterday it rained and my brakes got all rusty. I think it was brake fluid but I am not sure. I can sort of rub it off with a rag. Are these brown spots rust or just brake fluid or something? Also, it this bad for a new car.

Your brake rotors are made of cast iron and since they can't be covered with anything day to day weather will cause surface rust. This happens even if there is no rain. As you drive your new car the brake pads purposely drag very slightly on the rotors to keep them clean, dry and free of dirt. 10-15 miles of town driving will clean them back up.

Nothing at all to worry about. Steel specialty race car rotors do the same thing. Possibly someday someone will come up with a special hard stainless steel brake rotor that absorbs heat and will not warp. It's hard to believe but stainless steel repels heat, it's soft and expensive. Presently would not be a good choice for brake rotors

This is common. The rotors are bare metal, when they get damp they will rust, when you drive the cart and apply the brakes a couple of times the rust will brush off. Your rims must be quite open for you to notice this, probably other cars you owned has steel rims or were more closed and you just never noticed

Brake rotor surfaces are bare metal, they can rust very easily. No need to clean them, braking will remove the rust. There's nothing to worry about.
