I would like to get one for work, but worry about leaving it over the weekend. Does anyone know if this would be okay as long as I feed it regularly during the week?

THe best thing for you to do is provide your betta with a small, filtered aquarium. 2.5 gallon kits are commonly available at most larger pet stores and super stores and are perfect for a betta.

If you feed it at least once a day through the week, it will be perfectly fine over the weekend with no feedings.

Here's a link that will help you set up and keep a very attractive betta tank at work

Hope that helps

Yes, it will be fine, as long as your office is climate controlled. I've kept Bettas for years. They are hardy fish and can take more neglect and adversity than most tropicals. As an alternative you could put some live or freeze dried food in for him. Freshly hatched brine shrimp would keep a little while, and the fish love them. Tubifex worms can be stuck to the side of the glass and make a nice meal for a Betta, too. Just don't leave too much for him, the water can get polluted really fast.
If his tank isn't filtered, you'll need to change the water weekly. This isn't hard, you'll just need a container for the fresh water to sit in overnight, water conditioner for aquarium use, a net, and a place to put the fish while you clean his bowl (don't use anything too shallow, he might jump out!). It only takes a few minutes, you could do it on your break, easily.
Since you don't seem to know anything about keeping Bettas, I urge you to read up a little on them. You can get a book from any pet store, book store, or your library. It will tell you everything you need to know about properly caring for these beautiful fish. Good luck!

Yes, it should be okay to leave him there, but make sure that the sun will not be on his bowl during the day. Fish can go several days without food and still recover. He probably won't be the healthiest of bettas, and defiantly not in breeding condition, but most likely he will live. Try feeding him boiled egg yokes, small pieces of cucumber, and peas. He will be allot better of if he gets nutritious meals during the week. Just make sure you don't overfeed him, that would be REALLY bad. And another mistake that allot of people make is putting lilies in the bowl with the fish. It isn't good for them to eat it, though they probably will, and the roots of the plant release stuff into the water that can harm the fish and ad to the ammonia level of the bowl. Try a nice plastic plant instead. It's low maintenance and ads a nice touch to the bowl. Plus it gives the fish a place to hide! I wish you luck with your new betta!

Most places i have read say to feed them 3 to 4 pellets a day whether it is all at once or at multiple times and to skip one day with no food. So you would be skipping two. I believe it probably wouldn't be a problem but I would make sure to feed them Friday right before you leave and Monday morning first thing when you get in. Also, in case you are sick or on vacation would anyone else help feed the fish? You need to make sure you can have that covered before getting one at work.

You'll have to change the water as soon as you get to work because the nitrate levels can go up quickly in small gallon tanks. I recommend you to get a 2 to 3 gallon tank for a betta, since they need space to move around, and you'll appreciate their behavior more. I also recommend a live plant like java moss to control the nitrate levels. they don't need a lot of care and they're a good, cheap decoration for the tank. feed your fish everyday, and make sure to keep your temperature between 75 to 80 degrees.

Fish can be left on their own for days without concern. There is plenty for them to eat strewn about on the bottom of the tank. The biggest problem is overfeeding. This will pollute the environment very quickly. If you're really concerned...get a few soft leafy plants for your tank. Your guy(s) will love them and munch away happily..good luck

Yeah, I have six fish tanks and breed tropical fish. My fish eat a few times a week and thrive under these conditions. Make sure the tank is at least 2 gallons!!!!

They are cheap and easy to take care of.

Make sure you buy Amquel to get the chlorine out of the tap water.

Change 10% of the water once a month.

It should live for about a year or two, maybe more.

Do not put two of them together, they will fight to the death.

If you can't keep a beta, then you can't keep anything.
