Well i did have it but it aint working and it will cost $1000 to fix. Is it possible to get a cooler for cars that you plug into your cigarette lighter? and when you are driving you can keep it open so the cold air comes out into the car? is that possible? and its not problem to always run it full force while you are driving right, because it runs on your alternator right, and your alternator keeps going forever right??? or should i buy a $100 square air conditioner and plug it into an inverter? and please dont say to roll down the windows, as it doesnt keep you cool enough and is extremely irritating for long periods and you cant hear your music. thanx!!

Mythbusters proved that driving with the windows down does not do anything for gas economy.

What about one of those side port air cooler units?

You hook it to a window and you fill it with ice or water. It will cool the car, but I haven;t seen them for modern vehicles

Well if you can find an automotive alternator that can handle the current draw necessary to power one of those A/C units, you'll also need some way to run the coils to the exterior of the car (ie hang the A/C out the window of your car). You'll spend way more than $1000 to rig something up. An A/C unit is basically a heat exchanger. You need to discharge the heat somewhere, and if you have the entire unit in the car, you'll actually be heating up the car with the energy usage. Box A/C units usuallly "hang" outside a window, because it must transfer the heat somewhere else. In this case to the atmosphere. (Yet another way man kind increase heat on this planet). Honestly, your best and cheapest way to air condition your car is to get the A/C fixed. As for those tiny refridgerator you're talking about. Ever feel around them? They are expelling the heat right into the passenger compartment. Typically they have a fan going to move the hot air away from the heat sinks. If you don't believe us, then go and do what you think is possible.

Hiya, my friend had the exact same problem.
Except her car didn't have air con to begin with !
She bought herself a tiny portable fan, and stuck it to the dashboard, it is fine for a short driving distance ( 30mins )
But the batteries run out after about 60 minutes, no matter which brand you buy, even the expensive ones.
She then decided to wind down all the windows, which she hated because her hair got severly messed up and she couldn't hear the music or people talking.
She now has her sunroof open instead, if it is possible, you should wind out your sunroof aswell, you can still hear music and you get a really nice breeze running through the whole car. And it is natural smells aswell ! Which is great aslong as you don't live near a cow field !
Maybe you could also check around different garages to see if they will fix your aircon for a cheaper price ?
Good Luck cooling down !

No Year Make model or how many miles are on this car or truck? My best suggestion is repair what you have. Inverter will not boost 12 volts to 120 volts and take the 1,500 or more watts it takes to run a window unit. Where in the United States do you live? Overseas? As a Automotive Technician I can tell you where you might get the necessary parts to repair your A/C system. So what failed?

Get the water spray bottle and go naked!
All that other stuff you mentioned is going to cost you more than getting it fixed plus you are adding a lot of weight to the car!

You got me, I guess they sell them you might have to look on the net, or save your money and fix the A/C in your car that is what I would do . Also check around and see if you can get a cheaper price, hope Ti's helps.

What I do: Get a spray bottle and fill it with water, it makes the wind feel much better once you're spritzed down.
