Unfortunately in this day & age a monarch is less likely to be remembered fondly in history than, for example, anyone with celebrity status.
Also, nowadays the monarch is really only a figurehead & holds no real power.

To really be considered a great monarch one would have to have far more political authority than the current constitutional monarchy allows. I believe she has done a commendable job in her role as an emblem and expression of the United Kingdom, under difficult circumstances, but really great British monarchs are only to be found centuries ago. Off the top of my head, I would call these great English or British monarchs: Alfred the Great, William I, Henry II, Edward I, Edward III, Henry V, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. (I don't know how to rate Edward IV - probably close to those others.)

She will certainly go down as one of the hardest working and most dutiful. She has weathered many storms with grace and dignity, in spite of the fact that the world has completely changed from the times she was born in.
Brooke M - You have no understanding of the British parliamentary system. The Queen has no political power, the Prime Minister and Parliament make the laws, are responsible for the country's welfare, and go to war. She is head of state, and is impartial. If the Prime Minister decides for war, she must go along with his decision, whether she personally wants to, or not.

Yes, most definitely. She has been Queen over a period of unprecedneted reform, be it social, environmental, technological, industrial or political. No other British monarch in history has seen as much change in as short a time as the current Queen. She has coped admirably and with charm, weathering the many turmoils and scandals with fortitude. We would not be in the position of respect on the world today if it were not for her.

She oversaw the end of the British Empire and she herself remained mostly non-controversial. Under her the role of the monarch evolved into a more modern one. And there's the pure longevity of her reign not equalled by anyone since Queen Victoria. However, she has by no means been a reforming monarch. So in short, she will likely leave a mixed legacy with ardent admirers and fierce critics both.

Without a shadow of a doubt Elizabeth the II will go down in history as one of the finest monarchs this country has ever had. She has honestly and diligently devoted her life to the country and it's peoples.

Well, She hasn't done anything important or great for the British people. the last slightly great king was her predeccessor King Edward. He did some great things you know, British Empire and World War I. But nowadays monarchs have limited power due to the constitutional monarchy, therefore she has not done anything worth noticing or remembering.

No - great monarchs existed before the Parliament took all of power and control over England from Charles II. Monarchs who DID have power over England existed before then, including Elizabeth I who is said to be the greatest monarch Britain has ever seen - but that maybe because of Mary I who ruled before her who was seen as a dreadful ruler.

Given that this has been the most controversial reign in history (well, probably not actually but we're documenting things better now), I'd say yes.
The Queen has come through it all with grace and dignity and with her head held high. I would call that a great monarch.

yes i do, i love the queen i think she is a funny and caring lady, although her offspring have bought her much embarrassment she has been calm and dignified, in fact a real lady. she has served her country without question and although has many privileges she has given her whole life to the United Kingdom and i for one am proud to call myself a British subject and whilst we're on the point of the monarchy i think all footballers who refuse to sing the national anthem should be kept out of the team, they obviously do not care about playing for their country and they are a disgrace !!!. long live the queen xx
