whats difference between community college and private collge ...like bakers,walsh?

i am planning to go for diagnostic medical sonography from community college but after my prequisites i have to wait for 2-3 year to enter into the professional component.... but if i go to any private college i don not have to wait ....could any one tell me please, what the diff btwn these colleges...thanks
