You're looking at the cost to create the gear and comparing that with the cost we are selling it at. The gear is used, it's value has depreciated much like anything else. I'm sure not all of it works as well as it first did, much of it has seen wear and tear. When I buy a car and sell it 10 years later, I shouldn't expect to get back what I paid for it.

I don't quite follow your question. If the defense contracters sell at a loss they loose money not the government. If the government purchases the equipment for 45 billion and then the defense department subsequently sells for 30 billion then the taxpayer foots the bill. But if the equipment is obsolete like a used car I would rather have the government salavage 66% rather than just throw it away. If our government paid 45 billion for materials someone else was able to buy for 30 billion we did get gouged.

Yeah, you're right. The government is inefficient. Are you really so surprised by this? There is one other thing to consider though and that is that the government is actually an economic catalyst. No other entity or Private industry is capable of infusing nearly as many dollars into the economy. Every dollar the government spends whether its spent wisely and efficiently or not winds up back in the pockets of the people. The federal government is the largest single employer in the nation. Each federal employee, contractor, teacher, firefighter, police officer, and soldier receives their paycheck from the American taxpayers. They then spend those monies buying houses, food, and stuff from your store. If the government stopped collecting taxes and stopped spending money we would immediately find ourselves in an intractably horrific depression. Even money that winds up in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies pumps up our economy because the employees of those companies purchase goods and services and then invest money in the market, as do the drug companies themselves. It is not as bad as it seems...chill out and smile as you write your check to the IRS on April 15th.

Yes, you are being swindled big time, but hey! aren't we all in one way or another, lie after lie after lie, and there doesn't seem to be a damn thing "us" pawns in the game can do about it, politicians = the root of all evil, every thing's fvcking political.

IDK about the sales to France.
The military has always resold obsolete equipment on the world market.
I understand that they no longer do this as the equipment may go to our enemies. It's being destroyed.
