No, he wasn't joking. He said a few minutes later that he was "checking to make sure I didn't have anything to feel guilty about."

B. Your father is a whack job.
C. My mother used to say incredibly hurtful things to me out of nowhere sometimes, and when I would ask her why she'd say "I thought you needed shaking up." Not all scars are visible. That knife didn't cut your skin, but at the very least it severely wounded your sense of security and trust. Please know that you shouldn't have been treated that way.

I would say that falls under the abuse category..just because you weren't hit or stabbed doesn't mean that it didn't emotionally and/or mentally traumatize you. Maybe you should seek counseling to help deal with these painful memories.
