I have 2 goldfishes in a 10 gallon tank.. Everytime I walk up to their tank or they see me, they do their cute little dance to signal me that their hungry, even after I fed them hearty meals, consisting of flakes, and alternating with goldfish crumbles. I seem to find myself feeding them every hour..They seem so sweet and I feel guilty if I don't feed them right away.. How often would you recommend you feed your goldfish?

you should really consider putting your fish on a diet -- all they can eat in 2 minutes twice a day. the excessive feeding leads to excessive poop and makes for dirtier water that will need cleaning more often.

I've got a beta who does the same thing. Betas don't really need to be fed, because they eat algae, and there's plenty of that growing on the plants in his vase.

But he's so excited, it's hard not to reward him for being happy to see me.

Do you change their water really often? I read somewhere that overfeeding makes the water acidic and can actually affect the fish. But if you change the water, this isn't a problem.

I don't know if you can overfeed a fish. My suspicion is that they'll only eat what they can hold. If this is true, extra food is not a big deal.

I would only feed my goldfish once a day, but if you feel guilty and really want to reward them for dancing, just drop a bite or two into the fishbowl. Just a little taste. And you can do that as often as you like. I wouldn't do it more than once or twice, but I don't think it hurts them, so go for it.

Don't ever get a dog. This he's-happy-to-see-me-I-should-give-him-a-treat business could really get out of hand! lol! Big brown eyes watching you while you eat your roast beef...

Dearheart, you are a sweet, loving person. I wish you all the best.

Twice a day at the most. Just a pinch of food with your fingers. Don't feed them every hour!

Don't feed them every hour, because they will get bloated and won't be very healthy. I would say to feed them once a day with a pinch of food every day.

Once or twice a day is plenty. Feeding them more than that will make your tank dirty faster.

I think you should just feed them twice a day because if you feed them too much they'll poo a lot and more work for you also because too much food is unhealthy for them

gold fish can be ravenous eaters, try to feed them until you see their belly a little full, but not "bloated" twice a day and get a bigger tank when they grow up, or they'll be too cramped in there.
