They really do. And it's not just to protect them. Ex-Presidents carry a lot of classified information in their heads that could be disastrous to US interests if some one were to kidnap them and interrogate them under tuith drugs. Not to mention the embarrassment of letting something happen to a former President. They do make a lot of enemies and there are always people looking for a quick 15 minutes of fame.

Nixon offered to pay for his own security after he left office, but was overruled.

Yes. Secret service protects ex-vices, ex-presidents, their spouses and children of ex-presidents until they are 16. The list is actually longer, but you get the idea.

Yes. Aside from attackers, the thought is that presidents know "state secrets" and would make good kidnapping targets. There is probably some validity to that.

i am 99.9 percent sure they do... even though they are out of office or whatever there is still very high risks (as though they were still in office) of people wanted to murder them... i know you probebly thought of that already but hey... why ask when you can get TONS of answers!!! love ya bro... xoxo
