Actually, the old "rag on a stick" trick is a habit of the What Should I Do Retard.Other than that, I'm not familiar with the practice. If you are taking a class in statistics I suggest you look farther.

The stick makes it sound very impractical, it would be more likely people would sometimes wash themselves with a rag, but why with a stick?

The only thing I can think of is a DIY back washer, but attaching a brush to a stick would be more practical.
