Some women have nausea or even vomiting, some women have diarrhea (like their body cleansing itself). But some have no signs at all. I didn't really have any signs with either of my kids. With my first I did have a little upset stomach the night before I started labor but just like I had eaten something bad, not much. I started pre-labor (contractions every 20 minutes or so) overnight but didn't really know it - I was just really restless trying to sleep and get comfy. I start real labor every 10 min or so around 10 AM (not too bad though, I could still walk around and talk) and went to the hospital around 3 or 4PM when they were 4-5 minutes apart. My daughter was born just before 9PM. With my second pre-labor started out of the blue every 15 minutes or so on a Sunday night and continued all night and the next day. I still took my older girl to school and ran errands. My contractions finally got closer and closer and I went in at about 5-6 min apart (a little earlier than I should have) about 7 or 8 Monday night and my second girl was born just after 1AM Tuesday.
Oh - almost forgot - I lost my mucous plug 3 weeks before Ihad my first daughter and never knew I lost it with my second so that is not an accurate indicator.

My 1st pregnancy I didn't know what to expect. I was at home all day in labor and didnt know. it started at 4 am and I finally went to the hospital around 1 am the NEXT day. I was in labor that whole time and didn't know it. I tried laying down around mindnight to go to sleep, but couldn't I was out of bed in agonizing pain every 2 minutes litterally going # 2!! I was actually doing that all day & didn't think anything about it. I called the hospital and gave them my symptoms and they told me a fewt hings to try but didnt work I was having contraction every 2 mins. I went to the hospital and was dilated to 8!!!! I had the baby at 9:35 am that same morning. At least I got to stay home pretty much through it all instead of at the hospital cause once you get there you cannot eat. Good luck. Everyone is different and I cant say that you'll know for sure because I sure didn't!! :)

Each pregnancy, labor, and delivery is so very different. It is really impossible to say what signs you may have. With my first, I had a very bad pain in my side and went to see my doctor. She examined me and said I was dilating and to go home and wait for contractions to start and when they were 5 minutes apart to go to the hospital. I was nauseous and vomited in the afternoon about 5 hours before I delivered. With my second, I lost my mucous plug 2 days before I went into labor. With my 3rd I had no warning. I woke up in the night to go to the bathroom and when I got out of bed, my water broke. With my 4th I was high risk at 38 years old with Gestational Diabetes. At 41 weeks my cervix still had no signs of thinning, effacing, or dilating so they gave me an insertion of a prostaglandin gel to hopefully begin the softening of my cervix with plans to induce at 42 weeks if the gel didn't work. I had a fairly immediate bad reaction to the gel and began having 6 minute contractions and my baby went in to distress with very low heart rate. Some women do have diarrhea, but I never did with any of mine. Only my first did I have nausea and vomiting. I had back labor with my middle 2 because they were both posterior (head down, but face up). Sometimes it is hard to know at first if you are in labor and other times there is no question about it. My first grandchild is 3 months old. His mom, my oldest daughter, had no warning signs before labor began. She was 38 weeks and was getting ready for bed. On her way to the bathroom to brush her teeth, her water broke. Some women have the bloody show that is the beginning of the loss of the mucous plug. It can come out in a big glop or it can gradually leak out. Many first births it doesn't come out until the baby is being born. It is hard to say what signs you may or may not have. I just had my 3rd baby 7 days ago and my labor snuck up on me. I just started to have stomach pains and my stomach gurgled and i thought i was going to be sick, which i did get sick, i had diarrhea and the pain didnt go away, so i thought i was just going to be sick again, but i didnt get sick and i got to the point where i couldnt take the pain anymore (it hurt in my lower abdomen and back) and went to the hospital and had her 29 mins after i got there. but each woman is different so we can just all tell you our stories and hope that maybe it will give you an idea of when you might be starting labor. Hope it goes well for you and congrats on being a new mommy!

Well, my labour crept up on me with just backache. I thought I was suffering from backache but it was really contractions, I didn't have any other signs. My waters were broken for me whilst in labour, and my plug came out in the hospital too.

My water broke. I waited a few hours to go to the hospital (it was my first child so I had no clue when to go in). I was dialated to 7cm by time I got to the hospital. I never felt a contraction, ended up having a c-section.
Everybody's different.
Good luck to you :)

you'll start to get extremley painful contractions, once they are 4 minutes or less apart and you can barley take it you'll know its time. that or your water might break out of no where
