Am I missing something here or isn't Saudi Arabia the foremost exporter of radical Islamic dictatorship in the world, and didn't they attack the U.S. on 9/11. How can Bush justify this, it's worse than trying to sell our ports to a MiddleEastern country.

On 9/11 Osama chose Saudis to attack the US. Why? Because he wanted his two biggest enemies to go to war with each other. when we didn't, he went ahead and attacked Saudi Arabia as well. Had we turned against the Saudis, we would have played right into Osama's hands.

Political bigotry doesn't help. The facts remain. They're fighting the same battle we are. My family fled in part because of that battle. This is not Islam against the U.S. That is one of the most simplistic errors of the opponents of this war.

There have been no military opposition movements with the exception of Al-Qaeda, however there have been two serious attempts to overthrow the Saudi royal family: The first was on 1979-11-20, when heavily armed and provisioned Sunni Islamic fundamentalists, consisting of Saudis and Egyptians enrolled in Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Medina, took over and besieged Al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The other was in the year 1980 by Shia Muslims in the Eastern part of the country. The movement was allegedly supported by the Iranian government.

The current main opponents of the government are now the Movement for Islamic Reform in Arabia and al-Qaeda

Saudi Arabia is an ally of the US and it's important we have an oil producing nation in the middle east be friends with us. I think Iran and Syria are not too friendly with Saudi Arabia and if the Iranians look to seize control of oil exports from Saudi Arabia it would be bad for the world.

Almost all of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi, if not all of them! These good friends of the USA are not into equal rights and democratic rule. This is a VERY conservative Muslim country, where women are not even allowed to drive a car!!!

Saudi Arabia has been cool with the US. for like .. a LONG time. Beacon of Capitalism in the middle east. The reason Osama got so pissed at us in the first place was because his home (saudi arabia) picked us to help them out, over the muajadin.

Because the terrorism in Saudi Arabia comes from the ground up, often in opposition to the government of Saudi Arabia (who are our "allies"). Also, we want the Saudis to be a balance to Iran, who live on the other side of the persian gulf.

Makes you wonder if our Government will ever learn, doesn't it. Look at history: (1) Reagan provided arms to Iraq when they were at war with Iran....now look at where we are. (2) Reagan also provided arms for Osama Bin Laden and his 'freedom fighters' the mujahideen...we all know what happened with Osama. This administration has to be out of their mind to be even considering an arms deal or providing any time of military equipment to yet another foreign country, despite our supposedly "ALLIED" status with that country. It has been proven time and time again that those same Allies can and do turn against you. The arms deal is a very bad idea for our country. Stop selling our military equipment to anyone!!!!

Fox news reported today, the majority of suicide bombers in Iraq are Saudis. The question was posed "could the Saudi government do anything if they wanted to?" The answer was.. they know who is taking one way trips on planes and buses to Damascus, and they know they're not coming back..

We're not seeing eye to eye with SA .. we shouldn't be sending them weapons.

and if 12 guys from Berkley flew planes into building would we stop supporting California? Saudi Arabia is has a large college community from which many are recruited, it has nothing to do with the country itself, exept that it is 'free' enough to allow open breeding grounds of dissent and radicalism.
