sound like a cleaning is in order.
Just yesterday my neighbor came to me wondering if he should go buy a battery.
His was more sever, his interior lights worked, but his headlights, horn, tail lights or stater didn't. all high current components.
battery voltage was 12.5v but when he turned the headlights on the terminal (not the battery stud) went to 4.4v.

BUT, if that doesn't fix it - buy the battery.

clean by taking ALL of the terminal connection apart wet them and sprinkle some baking soda on it, let set for 15 min, then wash off. then use a wire brush.

What type of car is it? I know that battery terminal connectors from some vehicles can actually be crushed internally and therefore have an intermittant or weak connection. Try giving the connector bolt a few extra turns.

your battery is probably getting old. batteries have cells and they go bad after hard starts or just from age. the battery will remain like that until it is used like that for a while and will slowly break down. and when you get the battery replaced, have them install new terminals and check the other components related to the battery.(wires, coil, starter, alternator, and solenoid) -dave

Get your alternator checked out; could be just the belt needs replacing. Sounds similar to mine when it quit on me while driving. My battery was fine.
