Guys, you don't understand. Russia's population is seriously crashing. Fewer and fewer people are getting married and fewer and fewer people are having children. Abortions have outnumbered live births for every year since 2000. Add to that the massive numbers of teenagers and twenty-somethings who die of AIDS (in Irkutsk alone, about 1 in 5 men is HIV-positive), and you've got a really grim picture. This is a policy of desperation.
As for Russian Orthodoxy -- like many things have been in Russian life in the past several decades, religion is mostly about appearances and outward ritual. It gives people a pretty-looking place to go to on a Sunday morning, to wear their finery, and to be seen by others. It's about nationalism, not about the right way to live; ambiance, not substance.

I had never heard of this youth organization. I bet many others haven't heard of it either which is the reason we hear so few complaints about it in the west. It's scary. There is so much going on in the world that our President just ignores. It's more important to keep gay people from marrying! ; )

Seeing as Russia is a major Orthodox country, this greatly distresses me, as it may reflect poorly upon myself and those of my faith. May God have mercy on the world we live in today.
