I too am confused. I don't know why he would. Sometimes Stefano seems to have a conscious and sometimes not. He was doubting about the whole Sami/cord thing and then he was going to go ahead with it until he was stopped by Bart.
I would guess he wants to still be bad which is why he's keeping Andre nearby but having doubts about it. Andre will eventually be the new Stefano when he died I'm guessing.

From waht I understand Stefano supposedly didn't know it was Andre. At least that is what they said the other day. Andre took Tony's place over 20 year's ago. They just found Tony on a desserted Island where Andre had left him. John, Marlena and Anna just found him last week. So we will find out more I guess through time. When they brought Tony back he went to visit Stefano and warned him that now that he was back he don't know what he is in for so I can't wait to see the showdown between Stefano and Tony. Hope this help's.

Stephano took Tony and put him on an island 20 years ago. He replaced the real Tony with Andre. Because Anna was out of the picture by the time this happened no one knew of the switch.

bcse tony wasn't living up to stefano's standards as a ruthless sob like he is. he wasn't keeping up with the feud and stefano needed someone who would do just that if he passed on.

because above all else, stephano want's the brady's dead and andre is the only one on his side about that.
