I have tried running virus software, ipconfig, flushdns, release and nothing seems to work. I also messed around with network settings obtain Ip automatically. I just signed up with Time Warner and I know the connection is good I hooked a Laptop up to it and it could access the internet. I just cannot seem to get my pc to work(not wireless network). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I really do not want to have to reload my system.

Download a program called WinsockXPFix and run it. Search for it thru google.

You have spyware and viruses that need cleaning out if this fixes your problem.

Ok,When faced with this sort of problem I always go back to the basics.
First (horror of horrors) disable any anti virus you have running and turn off any firewalls as they can intefere with set up.next is to find out your modems ip address (google the name of the modem and default ip) then try pinging it,(Start.Run,cmd, ping *** *** * *) see if it responds, that way you know if the modem is being seen.
Next type the address of the modem in a browser window and try setting up the connection that way usually the default security settings are admin for both the login name and passwpord then you can try connecting by typing in your isp username and password.
And if all those fail try reinstalling your ethernet adapter (here I am assuming you are connecting via ethernet card not usb)
good luck anyway

make sure you ip address setting is set to automatic. best just re run the network setup wizard and choose "this computer connects to the internet via another pc or a residential gateway on the network"

the residential gateway is your router

Have you told your computer to look to the RJ45 port for it's internet connection. Start>Control Panel>Internet Connections, now click the "Connections" tab and then "Setup"

Welcome to the eNew Connection Wizard - Next
Connect to the Internet - Next
Set up my connection manually - Next
Connect using a Broadband connection that is always on -Next
Completing the New Connection Wizard - Finish

have you tried this
.
1. open up cmd
2. type 'ipconfig /all (note the space)
3. then type ipconfig /release
4. then type ipconfig /renew
are you sure that you have got to obtain it? is it a static ip address, as if it is you will have to hard code it into thecomputer.
