Adding a couple of teams to even out the leagues would not be a bad thing.
Its not that the pitching talent is so atrocious, but that the rules have been altered to favor the hitters. (that alone is reason for a note by Bond's upcoming home run record) Bring the mound back up to where it was. Don't allow the hitter to call time so late once established in the box. Allow less time for the hitter to establish himself in the box.
The other major issue facing MLB is the uneven distribution of talent. I'll let others debate how to level that part of the game.
As for the talent pool, it's deeper than it has ever been. At one time, the only talent available was White kids from the USA. The racial barriers have been broken, and the geographical barriers have been broken, and now the talent pool is global. MLB represents the best of the best worldwide in baseball, with only a couple of exceptions, (think of Cuba) and those are coming down rapidly.

The attendance at MLB games has set new records each of the last four year and is headed for another record breaking year this year. You are always going to have some teams that struggle to bring in fans, need a new ball park, and need a new owner to move the franchise forward. With that being said, I really believe the 30 MLB teams in place now is the right number. Four or five years down stream I believe we will see two new AL teams that will balance out the leagues at sixteen teams each.

hitting and defense talent pools are alright
but i think condensing by 2 teams would be great for the league
too little pitching talent coming up through the minor leagues is hurting the smaller clubs who cant go out and buy big pitchers or make a trade to get an ace on their staff
droppping 2 teams is the best thing the MLB can do

The talent pool at the MLB level has gotten very low. Teams like Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Pittsburgh have too many players that belong in the minors for a few more years. You really want to make baseball more entertaining, eliminate 2 teams Tampa Bay and Florida. Neither team can draw a large crowd (On their own anyways, I know the D'Rays have big crowds for Sox & Yankee games) and don't really do much for MLB in general.
Ideal Divisions:
AL EAST:
NY, Bos, Tor, Bal
AL CENTRAL:
Cle, Chi, Min, KC, Mil, Det
AL WEST:
Oak, Sea, Tex, LA
NL EAST:
NY, Phi, Was, Atl
NL CENTRAL:
Cin, Pit, StL, Hou, Col, Chi
NL WEST:
SD, LA, SF, Ari

You can't determine the number of teams by the current talent because it will always change. If we, as you say, have too few pitchers and should have few teams. In a few years there will be great talant in the minors that will never have a chance to pitch because there aren't enough spots. I think it's fine. That's part of the game. If all teams had the same talant pitching I woundn't be as fun. I love watching the rookie in his first game or 2 win against a veteran ace.

i agree with your premise. there are far too many teams now, and the pitching has been diluted. thats why mlb has to search far and wide for talent.. some of these guys have no business in the majors: ie kei igawa, jose contreras.. but in reality, its all about the money.. the owners get rich or make money rather just by being there, win or lose. some of them just dont care...the nhl had much the same problem.. too many teams, not enough talent.. some players would stay past their welcomes.. now, there are players there who you couldnt pronounce their names if you had to, and the games/quality of play isnt anywhere as good as it once was.. all this just to fill out rosters with these guys because there is no one better available...i hope the same doesnt happen to baseball...

I think there is just the right number of teams in baseball but the NL has 16 teams and the AL has 14. If the AL expanded to 16 that would be ok. Just no more teams from cali please they already got Dodgers, Giants, Angels and padres. Maybe a Utah, new jersey, or tennessee team

I would say it's just right as is. Maybe two more AL teams just to even up with the NL though. Unfortunately some teams just can't afford to really compete though there are a few teams that have done well with what they have such as the Diamondbacks.

i think there is a comfortable amount, but i think it would be rediculous if they ever did another expansion but with the popularity of baseballthe league is bound to keep getting bigger.in the next 3-5 years i bet youll see atleast 2 more teams. you can quote me on that. its all about the money!
