If the USA was founded mostly by Brits, why are the cultures so completely different?

There are similarities, for example we're more private like the brits (and many northern europeans for that matter), not nearly as sociable as latinos, middle-easterners, africans, etc. But being split for hundreds of years means differences were also bound to emerge.

Was the USA founded mainly by Brits? As far as I was led to believe, lots of people from different countries made their home in the USA. They all brought their own cultures with them and as they all inter married etc these cultures were all mixed together and came out as something new and different.
