What was really unfair was that on the CNN YouTube debates, the Democrats had a mentally unstable man with a huge gun trying to make gun control look great. I am sick of these gun control laws that have no effect on the crime rates whatsoever. I somewhat agree with the ban on automatics, but all the other gun control laws are nonsense. Looking at history, gun control is the first step to genocide and martial law. Hitler disarmed the Germans by passing gun control laws, then he was free to oppress any German he wanted because they were disarmed. Japan never attacked the US during WWII because they knew we were armed. The socialists governments in Europe banned most guns there, and the crime rate skyrocketed and is much higher than the crime rate of the US. Criminals will still find the means to purchase guns no matter how many laws are passed, and then they can attack innocent unarmed civilians. Criminals will always find a way to attack someone no matter how many laws you pass.

i live in a country with severe strict gun control. we get about 1-3 gun murders a year. one could say gun control works. its not just the democrats that want to destroy your country, one cannot tell apart elephant and jackass, as they both serve the same foreign masters, and their interests are not American first. foreign lobbyists have pushed their agendas to the forefront, ( one foreign PAC in particular has put Americans in jeopardy and increased the chance of terror at American interests ) just like many in the west says drug prohibition does not work, we found it does, all we do is hang drug dealers, once dead, they appear not to peddle their misery. it sends a messege, you be surprised.

Most Dems don't want to limit people's rights to have a hunting rifle, or even a pistol for a person who has had a background check, but Dems also think about the effects of no gun controls whatsoever in US big cities, not just thinking about rural areas. Imagine if NYC enacted the law that Kennesaw Georgia has, to require all households to own a gun. CHAOS!!! Ultimately, people are going to get guns anyway, so it doesn't matter what kinds of laws are on the books. Look at how well our drug laws work.
BTW There's a big difference in Dallas and New York.
I think actually Dallas has a higher crime rate in some years.
The data fluctuate by year, but in general big Southern and Western cities with more black-n-white populations have the highest murder and rape statistics.

There is a fantastic book I would urge everyone who claims there is no correlation between guns and crime to read, it's called 'More Guns/Less Crime'. A statistician went through and combined data at every concievable level of government, comparing everything from counties in the United States, to nations like the US vs strict gun control nations like the UK.

There is a provable and verifiable connection between the crime rate in an area, and the ease for LAW ABIDING citizens to procure and carry firearms. The fact is, the easier it is for your average Joe Sixpack to carry a Glock strapped to his belt, the less crime you have to deal with. Just think about it. Are you more likely to see a woman mugged in New York or Dallas Texas? They are both large metropolitan areas with high populations, but it would be much more likely (and is much more frequent statistically) in New York. Why? Because in Dallas, there is a good chance she has a gun in her purse. Armed citizens are a criminal's worst nightmare.

Edit: Crushinator. You said it yourself, the criminals will always have guns, because they are CRIMINALS. If they're willing to break into your house and attack/kill you for your possessions, you really think their morals will be effected by a law saying they can't own a gun!? You may only have a bat or knife, but THEY will still have a gun. Just because you've never been robbed or attacked, doesn't mean people in a less sheltered or safe environment don't have to deal with it on a regular basis. Where I grew up in California it was a pretty regular occurrence, and they have pretty strict gun laws there.

The fact is, and remains, I would rather have a gun and not need it, than need it, and not have one.

I'll answer you. I don;'t have a gun, and yet the evil criminals haven't broken into my house, or come to take me away. The argument that if you make guns illegal only criminals will have guns while technically true (because they would be criminals just by owning the guns) makes no sense and has no research to back it up. The 2nd amendment was written at a time when America had no standing army and needed a militia. We don't need a militia now, we don't need to go hunt our food now so the only reason to have a gun is either for recreation or to shoot a person. Go ride a roller coaster if you want to have fun. You don't need a gun, you just want one. When the king of england comes over here and threatens us then you will need you're guns. Till then, it just make it easier for criminals to get them.

Look at England, the police don't even carry guns over there, so don't tell me it can't work.

Criminals may still find a way to attack me if they don't have a gun but I like my chances a whole lot better against a knife or a baseball bat than against a gun.

P.S. Hitler didn't take over because the germans had no guns. He took over because they WANTED him there. Don't use an inaccurate view of history to support you're point.

I agree 100%! This is one of my biggest concerns in the upcoming election. I want to know who is pro gun control before I vote.

Most politicians want to appear that they are for the 'underdog', but in actuality, they are extremely sneaky about their real intents and tend to sway with the public voice just enough to get their votes before turning on them.

Here is a link that shows the candidates on the issues:
http://www.yournextpresident.net/thefacts.php

Here is another link that is allowing people to vote in a poll right now:
http://www.freedomworks.org//strawpoll//

We need to contact every news site and tell them that we're tired of biased news. We want some facts on the real issues and how they will affect America.

What are the real issues?

Pro Right to Bear Arms / Gun Control
Deportation / Amnesty
Secure Borders with a Fence / Open Borders
Pro Life / Abortion
Fine All Businesses Hiring Illegals / Ignore the Truth
Freedom of Speech / Censorship

There are other issues - but these issues will really give you a better idea of where your candidate stands on other issues.

I haven't heard that. Why would laws banning mentally unstable people from owning guns destroy the second amendment?

2007-07-30 03:47:32 · answer #6 · answered by professorc 7 · 3 0

Because guns do nothing but kill.
not exactly a productive aspect of our society.. If we didn't have such a crime/mental health issue in our country, it wouldn't be a big deal. After all guns don't kill people, it's the idiot pulling the trigger. But the few have screwed it up for the majority like everything else in our society.

The only gun bans I have seen passed is to keep them out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill people...nobody is trying to take them away from people who are not unstable.

I honestly don't see the correlation between owning a gun and preventing crime. I'm a liberal. I grew up with guns and the only time I experienced gun violence it was provoked by a person who had a concealed, legal, weapon on them.

A true liberal would not be for extreme gun control either.

I like your sentiments, but you got one thing wrong. The gun control laws DO effect crime rates...for the worse. They punish law abiding people and discourage them from packing heat. The criminals are already breaking the law so they don't care. They're packin heavy all the time and know we are'nt!
