What an interesting hypothesis! People are never as aroused as when they see a threat to their favorite issues. If they feel things are being taken care of, they usually relax. And presidents often find themselves forced to do things completely out of character by political circumstances. After all, Nixon went to China and presided over the creation of the EPA. In this case, however, politics has been so muddied by lobbyists and biased pollsters that candidates will do nothing to antagonize anyone they consider a political threat. Note the vast changes under the congressional democratic majority elected in 2006. Okay, don't notice it. The Democrats have effectively caved to every wish of the Bush administration, possible with the cynical hope of heaping even more mud on Republicans. IF their stupid strategy works and a corporatist Democrat actually beats a corporatist Republican, chances are certainly better that legitimate science will recover from the blows suffered under the current administration. But results aren't guaranteed. There are now sectarian troglodytes in the federal departments. Relentlessly identifying and rooting them out could be bad PR. And those noisy evangelicals will be making more noise than ever after their boy loses. I'm hopeful, but I'm not raising my expectations very high. Atheists may still need to regularly remind the president that they are still around just because of the din from the other side.

Actually it is liberals who have continually saved America from going back to the stone ages. Your life is a thousand percent better today than it would have been 200 years ago. The reason is that liberals have given you an 8 hour day, a 5 day work week, two weeks paid vacation, no child labor, medicare and medicaid, Social Security so you aren't destitute and starve to death when you can no longer work. Liberals made it possible for people to go to agencies for help rather than banging on your front door begging for a hand out. Liberals have made it possible for someone who is temporarily down on his luck to finally recover and get a job once again. It is liberals who help educate your children through public education and support for television programs such as Sesame Street and others. Liberals are accused of controlling other people's lives but banning gay marriage is exactly the same thing and that seems to be popular amongst the conservatives. Perhaps the conservatives are merely hypocrites. If it weren't for liberals there might not be electricity on the farms of America, nor would you have dams making lakes for your recreation and drinking water. Nice parks for you to visit are due to one liberal Republican by the name of Theodore Roosevelt.
The list goes on and on and on.

Any time I see "traditional American values" I crack up. It usually means by the one using it "My values, and should be everyone's values". That would be a lot more honest. Anyone actually living in todays society can look around and see there is a vast difference of opinion in what "American" values are.
Frankly from how I have seen some of these "conservatives" conduct themselves, both in the political arena, and private ones, I don't many of them as being worthy to tell anyone else how they should be living. They sure aren't living it themselves.

France and England are two of the greatest examples of Socialism and PC that's run amok. I certainly wouldn't want to walk in their footsteps although it appears as though that is the very direction that our Democratic front-runners would like to lead us.
You'd think they would look closely at what's happening there, listen to the public outcry and realize that it's a mistake that is nearly impossible to turn around and learn a lesson. But they're not.
Conservative, the TRUE conservatives will save this country, ultimately.

your personal values are not "true" values.. how arrogant to assume that you have all the answers to life. While most of us do support minding our own business instead of sticking our nose into someone else's (Gay marriage) We don't support socialism over capitalism.. rather we support balance. And we don't support "abortions on demand" as if it's some sort of drive threw clinic.. we support educating people on all choices and helping to insure they don't find themselves in that position in the first place by teaching birth control. You people don't want anyone to have sex and think that wanting alone is enough to make them stop... that's ludicrous! And then you don't want to give them the education or tools to prevent the very abortions you don't want them to have! I've never understood that circle of 'logic'.

I think we (conservatives) are the only thing keeping America from becoming a total Sodom & Gammorah (sp?)! I feel like liberals have an "anything goes" kind of attitude, whatever the cost, as long as the people who are forking out the almighty dollar aren't discontented. But hey, I could be wrong : )

The family, decency , fiscal responsibility and common sense seem to have gone by the waste side in a liberal world. In their world distribution of wealth is a good thing. They are secularist and don't gave a clue on what to believe. Most are so enamored with hating Bush that they just can't see straight. All for one and one for all, as long as your a liberal, right?

Part of the reason why I am a conservative is that I think they represent traditional values better than the liberals do.

No, conservatives are the reason the USA can't solve the problems of poverty, pollution, education or health care.
We'd have a pollution free, poverty free society by now if it wasn't for greed and religion holding us back.
