Sucker fishes suck on algae to keep down the algae growing on the tank walls.

most people buy plecostomus because they clean up algae that builds up inside the tanks. what most people don't realize is is that plecostomus shouldn't be used unless they have a 40-gallon tank. believe me, i've seen them grow to the size of a fist! shrimps are the best way to go with tanks smaller than 5-gallons. freshwater snails should be used for the rest unless working with a 40-gallon or greater.

cause they clean the tanks. they help with keeping the alge levels downl, and eat the left over food the other fish dont eat. cause left over food cause harmful enviroment for fish

hi they have them in the tank because they eat the algea and it helps keep it clean. i have one. most people have algea eating loaches for the same reason as catfish, the catfish clean the gravel and the loaches clean the glass, ornaments , pump and heater.
