I think they were class athletes who enjoyed the game of baseball and were true role models for the kids in little league. They both also did a rare thing, they played their entire career with one team. With free agency and all these big time contracts, it's hard to do it in today's game.

Two of the best guys to ever play the game going into the HOF on the same day, what a great day for MLB. It was perfect that it was just the two of them, any more than that would have spoiled the moment.

I agree. They definitely deserved to be there. Gwynn and Ripken were great players who have brought a lot to baseball as well as the Padres and Orioles respectively. Their speeches were outstanding. Anybody could be proud of them. Congrats to both on making the Hall of Fame. They have played the game the way the game should be played.

I have to agree with what everyone has said except the one person who has no clue who Tony Gwynn is. Neither one of them had any drama. though tony was more of a power hitter that Jr. he didnt always go for the long ball. his play in the outfield was awesome. as for Jr. I grew up watching him. never tried anything fancy. he put the bat on the ball and gloved down the ball when it came his way. when he broke the record for conscutive games played. no one made a big deal about it. and he liked it that way. you will never find any other 2 class acts of baseball then these two!

It was great!

Interesting that they were both profiled in George Will's book, "Men at Work" - Ripken as the epitome of fielding and Gwynn as the epitome of a hitter. It was very fitting that both of those guys went in at the same time. I liked it when Gwynn said how much fun it had been hanging out with Ripken since their election was announced.

I think it was cool. I don't know why Tony Gwynn is so wide though. I guess he just let himself go like Kirby Puckett.

Two great players of character! The big question is: Will we see the likes of them again in this tainted era?
