Firstly work out the area of the whole of the backyard including pool.

Calculate area as follows:
200' x 140' = 28,000 square feet or (2 x 140 = 280) x 100 = 28,000 square feet.

Next we need to calculate the area of the pool as follows before deducting it from the overal backyard measurement:
30' x 15' = 450 square feet or (3 x 15 = 45) x 10 = 450 square feet.

Finally with the backyard measuring 28,000 square feet we need to deduct the pool size of 450 square feet thereby giving us an answer of 27,550 square feet of grassed area.

Total area = 200 x 140 ft² = 28000 ft²
Area of pool = 30 x 15 ft² = 450 ft²
Area of grass = 28000 - 450 ft² = 27550 ft²
