Thank you!

Clean the area with a steal or wire brush & then look for ( a screen like material) to cover the hole then Get you some card board and wear gloves and mix the epoxy together and then cover the hole with the screen material and then apply the epoxy with a popsicle stick.. and remember it has to dry at least 1 day I believe you can not drive the car or the air with just blow it right out and you would have wasted your money

If you need the sticker ASAP, the fastest fix is a muffler shop. They can have you back on the road in a couple of hours if you have to wait in line or 20 minutes if you happen to get right in. Any kind of epoxy or "quick fix in a box" you can find will still take you a couple of hours to apply then you will be without a car while it dries and sets and for some of them, that's overnight.
All that said not even considering the safety factor. I suggest finding a small independent shop and not going to one of the name brands. The small shop will be more willing to just fix the problem and not sell you on a whole new exhaust system.

Muffler Epoxy

I've been there and done that. Back when I didn't have any money. It will work for a day or two, long enough to get an inspection. Muffler wrap stuff is probably better, although I never actually used it.

Mufflers are cheap, if you know where to go, so I don't do that any more.

It would be a quick Band-Aid fix. It wouldn't last very long. There is most likely a larger area if rust inside the muffler.

It would probably last long enough to get you through the inspection, as long as the inspector doesn't spot it.

I would consider new muffler soon.

You could certainly try it, and it might work long enough to pass an inspection. However, there is a reason that they require you to have an exhaust system with no holes in it, and it has little to do with the noise. Exhaust leaking from the system can get into the interior of the vehicle, causing Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

Please have your exhaust system repaired properly.

depending on the size of the hole and the structure of the surrounding muffler, u might find a sheet metal screw to fit nicely into the hole.
that worked on a pressurized water line for me.

I tried a patch kit once, didn't last long.

all depends on the hole size.

I havent read the other answers but they make a product at your local parts store (NAPA) called Muffler Weld. Its approved for high temperatures and works well. I would stay away from liquid steel because it doesnt hold up to the heat.

There is a patch kit available in stores but the easiest way to fix it is with 2 hose clamps and a small piece of sheet metal.Wrap the sheet metal around the pipe and clamp it in place. This should stop the leak

No, it never works.... You're going to have to get a new muffler.
