Tracing the ancestors of the old kingdom? An intriguing question indeed, I will try to answer you with the scares knowledge that I have in this subject. I want you to imagine history as a time line, and I want you to move back in that timeline to the enchant Mesopotamia (Land of the Two Rivers) AKA- Iraq.

Now centuries before the old kingdom was made continuous races of strong warrior civilizations inhabitant the region. There were the Sumerians, the Acadians, Babylonians, then New Sumerians.

What that has to do with Egypt? A valid question, all the above civilizations was mainly concerned with their own territory save for the Acadians, they where among the ruthless as they come, it is said that even Spartans where more civil then them!

Now, these Acadians had the first ever expansion plans in recoded history, they used destroy or conquer attitude in their vast campaigns. Their reign of terror expanded all the way from Mesopotamia across the wholly land and all the way to Egypt. They took control over the whole aria and mixed later with the local population.

When the Acadians finally fall, their fall was cataclysmic and almost all trace of their civilization was lost. The remaining who stayed outside of Mesopotamia proclaimed themselves as Gods and ruled North Africa – AKA Egypt as Pharos-.

I hope that I shed a light on the subject… Good Luck

The ancestors of Ancient Egypt probably vary, some coming from the soon-to-be dried up region of the Sahara, a good majority from Nubia, and near the delta, a few from Asia, where they probably got their Sumerians influences indirectly.

I know this, way back right after the ice age, the Sahara desert wasn't a desert, it was a vast Savannah with plentiful game and rainfall, then the region started to dry up all the people of that region flocked to the Nile area because it was the only source of freshwater left, and basically they became Egyptians
