To get the 5/9 over to the other side, you need to multiply both sides by its reciprocal - 9/5. This will get rid of the 5/9 on the side with the F and leave a 9/5 on the 'C' side.

Example 100 degrees C = 212 degrees F
212 - 32 = 180
Divide by 9 = 20
Multiply by 5 = 100 C
