Yesterday as I was leaving my old apartment my car started kind of funny. When I was trying to leave my new Apt. my car wouldnt start. Eventually it did.. but not very well. It's been doing that since. It sat over night, and when I left for work today I had to give it some gas to get it to start. I also have an anit-theft cd player in my car (2000 Mitsubishi Galant) that stopped working after my car wouldn't start the first time. Now it says Code. Is this because of the starting problem... I don't know anyting about cars... clearly!

If the car radio says "CODE" it implies that the radio has been disconnected from the battery for a while, or that something has dropped the supply voltage so low it can no longer maintain its memory.

From this I would make a guess that either the battery needs charging, the battery posts are loose, or there is a problem with the alternator/charging system (which will normally disconnect some circuitry when the engine is trying to start).

If the battery is fully charged and the battery cables are secure on their posts, the next step is to look for a loose cable in the charging circuits, or possibly for a fault in the alternator.

You may also want to look for something that is left on by accident that is draining the battery, but this is less likley on a Subaru, because they subscribe to the "when it's off, it's ALL off" method of power management. (Unless you have accidentally hit the "parking lights on" button, usually on the top of the steering column, which will show a red painted strip if activated. If this is the case, switch it to the OFF position).

There is a very small chance that the engine management computer has a fault, and on a 2000 model it doesn't have the "limp home" mode, so the car will still run OK once started, but you should have seen several warning lights before this would happen.

Well the starting problem could be due to battery posts not tight or with the weather people forget to add water to the battery also if you have any added extras to the car stereo you might want to check the alternator and have your belts checked. On a 2000 you should have replaced the belts about four years or 36,000 miles. the anti theft is because the battery is low which would mean that the charging system is bad take it to your nearest parts place(not the dealer!!!!) and have them check the battery and charging system (they do it for free)

Go to Auto Zone & ask for their OBD code reader. It's free. All you need to do is give a deposit & you get a full refund when you return the reader.

This is easy to do. Most ports in modern cars are under the steering wheel area & are purple in color. All you do is follow the easy steps that come with the reader & then you see what code your computer is giving. Once you have the code you google it & in most cases you will be able to find out exactly what is wrong.
This beats having to pay $120 at a shop to run a diagnostics check.

Not too much YOU can do other than have it towed to your mechanic. The computer has detected a problem with the engine.

you may not have enough amps in battery or the alternator is going out
