Yeah, cr#p like this is why I chose not to join a political party. I'll side with whoever is the best candidate, whatever the best plan is in a situation, ya know, based on what I think is best, not their party. The way these parties talk about each other is disgusting, we're all American, aren't we?

Because thankfully we have checks and balances, as well as elections. The Democrats haven't been able to get insanely high taxes because of sensible presidents through the latter half of the 20th century, and if they had passed an amendment to the Constitution banning the right to bear arms, it would have first needed to be approved by the People, which would have been quite difficult.
It's a good thing the Republicans' "predictions" didn't come true. America would be more poor and unsafe. (tax breaks always help the economy and criminals will always find ways to get guns).

Well, I'm just a little bit behind your 48 "Short" years, but not only remember them trying to, but can point out how some of them still are trying/doing what has been claimed!
And "usmctanker1962" (sure you were/are!)
We didn't >all< lose our Fully auto AK-47's, or 100 round magazines of "Armor Piercing" ammo (Hint: most/all rifle ammo will Peirce standard body armor).
Some of us have had old laws/decisions reversed and enjoy more favorable gun laws today then ever before......thanks to our Conservative law makers & Gun rights groups efforts.

Easy question. You're a subjective liberal democrat refusing to see a point of view that doesn't serve your party's agenda. The tax rate rises when democrats take control and fall when republicans are in control. Gun control? Ask a few people in New York, California, and a lot of other places if they can "bear arms." (in the same manner as people in the red states.) You will dismiss my assertions out of hand even though a little objective research on your part would prove me correct.

Really? You don't remember the record tax increases that Clinton put into place. also during his term restrictions on gun ownership were increased. Since over your short 48 years you only remember Carter and Clinton, you were 11 or 12 when Nixon was elected, you don't have very many instances to recall.

We all need brakes and gas, no matter what direction we are headed.
Yes, I have. I've seen handgun laws, other laws to take away our gun rights.
I've seen taxes to redistribute wealth and to punish success.
Yes, I have.
I've also seen similar, but opposite problems on the Republican side.
We are balances to each other, not enemies. We have different goals, different focuses. Some have tried to turn it into a personal fight, political bigotry.
What a waste.
No, they haven't and won't. Republicans won't let them.
No, the Republicans won't take us to war with most of the world and let Big Business take over our government. We won't let them.
None of the silliest goals of the extremists on either side with come true.
We are a balance. The system works. Not perfectly, but better than anything else we've seen.

You've been around 48 years and you haven't seen any of this happening or being attempted? And I thought I had memory problems.
Do you remember the Carter Administration? Talk about taxes.
Did you forget about the famous Dodd Dynasty of Connecticut? Father and son (Thomas & christopher) both tried to have private ownership of guns outlawed.

And they haven't let gays have our children either.
Sorry for all of you that lost your 100 round magazines full of armor piercing bullets for your fully automatic AK-47s.
Lets all vote to spend and borrow, I'm sure the Commies in China don't mind that we are mortgaging our children's future.

How about this: The dems can take all of our guns and sell them to Iran. Then no more guns and no more taxes.
