John Edwards is the only candidate calling for an increase in taxes on corporations that take U.S. jobs overseas. And he's calling for increased taxes on hedge-fund managers and private equity firms. In other words - he's calling for an increase in taxes on himself!
And he's calling for an end to Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest among us. Why should the working poor and middle class subsidize the wealthy?? These tax cuts for the wealthy would pay for universal health care and help kids from working poor and middle class families attend college.
www.JohnEdwards.com/issues
This is why the CORPORATE media smears him 24/7 - because he opposes the million and billion dollar salaries of CORPORATE CEOs - while they keep the working poor poor.
The Republicans have spewed the mantra for decades about Democrats raising taxes - but Bush along with the Republican congresses have spent more than all previous presidents combined - and we have a huge deficit - while our retail prices have soared! All Bush's wars and our tax cuts are being placed on foreign credit cards!! and once again - the Democratic president will face a huge deficit - and be faced with cleaning up another Republican mess.

Think you are confused. Look at history, Republicans give tax breaks to the rich and take breaks and services away from the middle-class and the poor.
The Democrats give tax breaks to the poor and middle-class and attempt to form laws to help them.
Try reading the legislation that was passed prior to the election of the Democrats to Congress. You will see that most if not all the legislation is slanted toward the rich. The few token laws that were passed to benefit the rich either had so much pork in them to benefit GOP backers or they actually took away more than they gave the poor and middle-class upon a closer reading.

A little nuance may help the question. What we find is that the old "Democrats tax" and "Republicans don't" mantra is completely ridiculous. If you actually look at the history of the candidates running for President from both parties you will see that some raised taxes and others lowered taxes but that it really had little to do with party affiliation.
So, Republicans that raised taxes (particularly that affected middle and lower classes) are Romney and Giuliani.
And Democrats that lowered taxes are Richardson and Gravel (and Vilsack before he dropped out).
Let's actually look at the candidate's history and judge their proposals as President...let's not stereotype based upon party positions in the 1940s.

Well now seems to me that there was a TAX SURPLUS when the Dems left office and the Republicans went and spent it and then some by starting this stupid war. So when we get rid of them someone has to pay the bills the Republicans piled up or did you miss that part while you were ranting and raving about something you know nothing about, if you did you would have some evidence to back up this ridiculous claim.

Jeremy, suggestion:
Use a word processing program, post your answer in that. Run the grammar checker, not just the spelling program, and then post it online.
You'll learn from every effort more about grammar and your arguments won't be ignored by those who don't want to sift through the errors to find the meaning.
No one owes you to do that. It is the burden of the speaker, not the listener, to communicate their message and yours is being lost.
I don't want that to happen, though I am a democrat.
I believe in free speech.
I'm also a teacher.
Good luck to you. Keep posting. Don't get discouraged.
I hope my suggestion helps. I do the same thing every once in a while.
I am also a capitalist, not a socialist. Taxes to redistribute wealth is not something I support, either.

Anyone who is in favor of raising taxes doesn't get my vote PERIOD!
The rich already carry the majority of tax burden.
What I like to see democrats do if they care about taxes on the poor they do away with the lottery. Which is burden on the poor because they put their money into on scam.
Or cut taxes on tobacco because there again the poor are the ones who pay the majority of it.

I am sick of it. Also, their plan is to increase the INCOME TAX. That is money that you are earning. And not all money is equal because $100,000/year in Los Angles does not buy the same as Griffin, Ga. The plan is to prevent folks from acquiring wealth so the government can posses more power.
If they want to tax the rich then have everyone add up their assets and give 5% of their assets over 5,000,000 to the government. Now that is taxing the rich.

I guess you have a problem with dems raising taxes but have no problem with Bush spending hundreds of billions of dollars that this country does not have.

My husband and I are planning to leave this counrty. Taxes are the main reason. We are both fairly decently paid professionals, but can't seem to get ahead. Taxes are killing us and making us slaves to an unnatural lifestyle. There has to be a better way!
