If it's something you haven't used in a year, throw it out.
That's what I do, except for the nice clothes you have for weddings and funerals.

I have the same problem. I have so many things that I don't seem to throw away because I may have a use for it later or because it was something someone once gave me, etc. Recently I worked really hard cleaning out some areas of my house and had to be realistic about throwing things away. I actually got rid of a lot of stuff and was really proud of myself. Then it made me feel good to organize the stuff that was left. I really felt like I had accomplished something. Now I just need to work on keeping it up and not letting things get cluttered again! Some things I need to throw away right away rather than letting them sit around!

If you don't want to throw anything away then try this. Get a box and put stuff you don't use in that box. Then put the box on your closet shelf or store it away in the attic or somewhere out of the way. That way if you need something it will be there. Most likely you will forget about the stuff after a couple of months. In about 6 months or so go get the box and throw away or give away the stuff that you haven't used. You might feel better about getting rid of the stuff after it's been put away and you see that you haven't wanted any of it.

I have a similar problem. I always think "what if I can use that later". I use the rule of thumb, if you have used it in a year, then throw it out. You probably won't use something in the next week, month, year if you haven't used it in the past year.
It might seem difficult to part with your things, especially if there's a story behind it, but if you didn't know it was there, you probably won't miss it.
Only keep the things that you know hold very sentimental value.

It's important to think about how you want the space to look and feel.. If it's cramped and cluttered how's that going to make you feel? If you are keeping things that you don't use, you are creating foolishness/chaos in your space.. Get some storage bins/boxes that fit in you closet and try sorting out your things to only fit in that space... If it doesn't fit you can't keep it ! Also, utilize wasted space like under the bed... I have 2 underbed storage containers that I store bed linens and out of season clothes.. It's out of the way and I know where it's at.. .You can even put your bed on lifts to utilize the space further. Use the areas behind the doors to store shoes, toiletries etc... Just get too it.... good luck

Put some of those things in a box and write the date on it. Put the box away in a closet or a garage where you really have to need it to get to it. If six months goes by and you haven't used things in that box, get rid of it. Think about donating things you don't want to a local charity. It may make it easier to get rid of things if you know they are going to a good place.

If you can't throw it away, at least organize it. Use plastic boxes for storage (cardboard attracts bugs). Use the space under your bed for storage. Keep the clutter to a minimum, which will make your room appear cleaner.

You don't need to throw it away, if it is usable then why not take it down to your local charity shop, or if its recyclable why not take it to a recycling plant.
Believe me what you may think is junk is another mans fortune....
You will feel so much better helping others with your stuff...
