Wristwatches and wall clocks, if you listen closely, go tic tic tic. The arms of the clock are moving in one direction only.
The clocks that go tic toc are usually the old style grandfather clocks. It's because the arm of the clock swings back and forth.

A regular clock just goes tic tic. But I think the big wooden old ones, that stand up go tic toc. You should look that up, good question =).

I have a clock with metal gears instead of the new ones that have plastic and it goes tic toc. The toc is the sound of the 2nd gear shifting.

Old mechanical clocks usually make a "tick-tock" sound as the spring or weight mechanism ratchets back and forth, loading and unloading.
I have a few mechanical clocks. I enjoy sitting and reading while all is quiet and the mantle clock tick-tocks. It is like hearing the heartbeat of my house. It is strangely comforting.
