Compared to Mexico, and everywhere else that people leave enmasse to come here. I'm not saying you are wrong in your examples, but come on, we've still got a lot of other places beat apparently.

But mostly I would agree with you.

The debt has already been cut in half in the last 2 years and will have a surplus in 2 more years if numbers remain the same, so wrong on that point. Great compared to most of the rest of the world, thats what. Do you ever travel or watch something on TV besides Entertainment Tonight? Americans may be overweight as a nation, but not lazy by any means.

The easiest thing for a foreigner to do, would be to agree with you.

I am Canadian, how ever I do not think that Americans are fat, lazy, or ignorant.
I believe that most Americans love their country, and wish it the best.
Yes the national debt is horribly high, but this was the doing for the most part by your government.
The U.S. is a powerful nation, and as most powerful nations there comes a time when they reach the zenith of their power, and start down the other side,I am not sure this is the case at this point, however it may be.
If you believe what you say, then the way to change it is to get involved, and try to democratically effect change.
Do not just become a nation of Bitchers, and Whiners.

Your question displays your ignorance. You obviously are not well traveled. Go to Philippines, Thailand, Darfur, Kenya, or even many small towns in Mexico, or many other places in the world and you will discover why America is the greatest nation on earth. Sure, we have our problems, as do most other countries, but our societal structure is far better than most. There are some places that some people think are better, and they may be, but by large America is the best. Once you traveled around the world, as I have, you will see this too.

Would I like to see ALL of our congress replaced? Heck yeah, they stink! Would I like to see our country take better care of it's people? Yes I would! But, until the voters get off their butt and do the right thing, it will NEVER happen.

We need to send a strong statement to all these rich people and vote them out of office...that is how we take back the control of this country...we need someone in office who's first thought is to do what is right for America and Americans.

I think America has definitely lost its dominant status, and is heading in the wrong direction in terms of global influence, but I would still list the country as 'great' in terms of comparing it to other countries in terms of influence. China is becoming (or already) the new number one nation in global influence, but I do not think I would prefer to live there, based upon my knowledge.

In short, I do not consider America a 'has been' but I can see us heading that way, with some similarities between the cultural and social decay of current US society and the that of the ancient Roman Emperor. Might history look back on the current Bush as just another Nero?

There's a few easy tests:

mckenziecalhoun’s Rules of Political Acumen
Rule number 63: There are three things that people expect you to forget when they want you to hate your country so that they can be put in power to “fix it”:
1) How many people are immigrating into your country (as of 2006, the United State accepts more legal immigrants yearly than the rest of the world combined);
2) How many allies your country has in general (46 official, many more unofficial);
3) How many people are proud of your country (World Values Survey puts the U.S. at the top of the list, 77%).

Ooooh... stereotypes. Then you must be very thin, industrious, and smart. Anyone who can use stereotypes and insults to make a point must be brilliant. You provide no evidence to support the theory that we can't recover from multi-trillion dollar debt, even though we've done it before. You ignore the fact that MOST countries can't control their borders, criminals, or corruption in their government. You ignore the fact that most people think their country is great, regardless of where they live. Wow. I'm so amazed by your keen intellect and powers of persuasion.

If America is so bad, why do we have so many Mexicans risking their lives to get here every year? Why do we have people from all over the world moving here to pursue the American dream?

You are entitled to your own opinion, but I am just pointing out that many people think America is a great country.

Some of us don't give a ****. I am an Italian/american and I dont ****** care about your opinion or any other. I work, pay my taxes, smoke bud, sit around, go fishin, party, eat well, work out, go anywhere and meet hot, CLEAN, smart, educated, women, And on top of it all We have The NFL. Ignorant? not at all. You can't blame the people of a country for there governments actions.

I disagree with your opinion about America. We're still the land of the free, holding liberty and freedom to its highest ideals. If America is so bad, why are we having such a problem with immigrants and illegal aliens on a constant note?

Many people want in the country, but only the disenchanted liberal left want out. Seldom do they leave too.

It is great because all of the thing you listed CAN be fixed, it is up to the American people to fix them though. This nation has come back from much worse situations and been stronger than ever (I suggest you freshen up on your American history).
What makes this country great is the people who live here, even *** holes like yourself.
