Is this high school? Middle school? I have coached high school football and baseball for 4 years now, and I have went through a few different styles of coaching. The one that I found works best (since I am 25 and still pretty close to the age of the kids) is trying to be friends with them, get to know them a little, and then if I have to I can get mean, but they value that friendship and try to do the best so I dont have to do that...
Now their are other coaches like the one you have that are just mean all the time. I am assuming its high school... if its middle school then dont bother, middle school athletics are supposed to be more chilled than that.
So for this mean guy, he could hold a grudge against you since you quit last year, and nothing could change. If I was you I would go talk to him before the season... tell him that this is my favorite sport, and you had to quit last year because you could not take it anymore. Maybe you were a freshman and had lots of other stressful things going on I dont know... But talk to him, tell him why you had to quit, and that you really wanted to work hard this year and try it again. Also coaches really like a leader... If you can become that leader, and stay positive, it may change his attitude towards you.
Best of luck... Its too bad that some people have to act like that and ruin the favorite sports of others...

yes ..
if you really [love] that sport than noone should hold you back from what you really love and want to do.
dont let someone anyone have that big of an affect on you to quit sports. if you really love it, deal with it.
you wont regret it. the only thing you would regret is not playing.
when i was in highschool i tried to quit a billion times because of my coach. he was mean. i figured out why he was so mean because he thought i had a lot of potential and could go on to the next level.
dont let it bother you, let it motivate you!
i hope you continue to play ..

You are going to come across every kind of person as you live your life, I would suggest you stay with the team, do the best you can, and use it as a learning experience. You will be better of for it in years to come.
