ok after MANY attemts to put in a tampon, many painful and grossed out moments, i finally did it. i found the right spot and slid it in. but i could feel it and it wasnt comfy. i think i just need to put it up just a LITTLE more before taking off the cardboard. but wat i need to know is if its ok to use the smallest kind there are. i am using the smallest kind in the brand of tampax, but i havee such a HEAVY period so i dont think the lights will work for me. i had to oull the tampon out cuz it was in wrong and it hurt but it wasnt cuz it was dry: cuz it was the first time that thing waz in there. but it had lotsof blood and was only there for like 5-10min. i cant use super and stuf cuz i can like only fit a small junior one down there so i was wondering if its ok. like i dont want tss and i dont want leaking in the pool. im going to the mts today and i wanna swim.

I had a lot of trouble with tampons for a long time, too. One brand I found that works great is Playtex Gentle Glide. The applicator is curved, so it's easier to get in, and it's made of plastic instead of cardboard, so it slides in with a lot more comfort. Plus, theyre not too big, but still very absorbent.
Get the unscented kind, though. Yes, yes, being on your period is gross. But the chemicals that go into that perfume can cause infections and agitation--you're better off keeping to the unscented kind.

Use a tampon with a plastic applicator (I've had three kids and still cannot get the cardboard ones in right). Stand up with your foot on the toilet. Hold the applicator with your thumb and index finger and insert. Angle it towards your lower back and if it starts to hurt, gently move the applicator until it doesn't.
When you get the applicator all the way up, your fingers will be touching your skin, then slowly push the plunger in until it's all the way in. Pull out the applicator and tug the string just a bit to make sure it's in there correctly (don't pull it back out.)
You can always try O.B. tampons, they don't have any applicator and some women have better success with those.
To lessen your chance of TSS, use a pad at night instead of a tampon.
Hope this helps

Well, they can hold more than you would think. However, since you are using the smallest ones, simply change them every 2-3 hours. I know that is annoyingly often, but it's way worse to have leaks. Also, use a pad/pantiliner too just in case you leak. When putting them in, use a plastic applicator, and if you need a little more help, put some lubricant on the applicator (even Vaseline can work). Size is nothing to worry about; we all start small, but the more you use them, the better you'll feel about it. Eventually, you'll be totally used to it and be a pro at putting them in. XOXO

You should try plastic app. They are so much easier. If you have an issue with wetness try ky. You need to use reg. I am always heavy and reg works for me. Card. app. will be harder to use that plastic though. Kotex are the best. do not use the scented either. When you are in the pool, it tends not to come out due to the pressure of the water. Go get some reg kotex tampons with plastic app. and try them.Push the applicator almost all the way up in you before you start pushing the tampon out of the applicator. I am sure that you will be able to get it done with that.

YAY glad you got it to work!
OK, try a few more times with the slender tampons. Make sure you have it up as far as needed and still have the string visible.
After getting used to that, then go and get a heavier absorbency.
Just remember to change them every 4-6 hours.

If it hurts it isn't in far enough. You shouldn't feel it at all.
You will be fine with the absorbancy. just change it often. (I'd say about every 2 hours)
I would also use a plastic applicator. They are much more comfortable than cardboard.

It's ok. You'll just need to change it more often. I'd check after 2 hours.
Also did you try the ones with the plastic rounded applicator? They're a lot easier to insert.
