Why can't some people look at economic and political issues when addressing terrorism rather than just blame it on religious nutcases? Is it wrong to think that is isn't purely in black and white, and that the US isn't completely innocent and that we were not attacked completely unprovoked?

Actually, you're only one step closer. You still want a bad guy.

There are no bad guys. Each side is doing what they want because they think it is the best thing to do. The sanest of them do not think they are the "good guy". They are simply doing what they have to for the interests of their country and according to the ethics of their ideologies.

However, there are also those who want to be the "good guys vs. the bad guys". It's silly, and leads to losing sight of one simple fact:

What they want is not in our interests, politically or personally.

What they want will hurt the U.S. and many of us personally.

Thank you, but I side with the U.S. interests, not theirs.

My family escaped Islam in the 1950s. We've been expecting this war to break out for decades. We've been kind of surprised at the silliness of the arguments against it.

Never underestimate the lemming-like behavior a short-sighted ideology can have.

Ah, the 'ole "root cause" argument. Well, if you would take the time to read about the history of islamic extremism, you would readily understand that the islamic terrorists base their actions entirely on the misguided desire to make all things muslim. It has nothing to do with economics or politics.
