About the same thing as speed limit laws do for the victims of vehicle manslaughter.

The laws are there, they are enforced, but you are always going to have those who feel they are above the law, and those are who our Law Enforcement Offices try to catch!

You are asking: What good do gun control laws do for victims if people don't abide by them?

At this scary point in history, your irrational government is interested only in keeping certain elements of society safe, not all. In other words, laws are only as good as the people who make them. "Crappy" laws = "crappy" people!

If you look at the problem carefully and objectively, you will come to a similar conclusion.

Do your best not to get too entangled in the illusion of life.

Same as every other law. The majority of the population obey and abide by them. There will always be criminals and law breakers and they have to be caught by law enforcement to be deal with by the criminal justice system. We can't simply not have any laws based on the fact that some people are not going to comply and abide by them.

And why do the states with the strictest gun control laws have the most crime while the states with lax laws have the least crime?
Why do the idiots keep yelling "Pass more laws" when we already have more than 20,000 gun control laws?
How many students would have died in Virginia recently if all of the students had firearms? Not many!

Any law that tries to reduce crime by turning law abiding citizens into criminals is doomed to fail.

Any law that tries to reduce crime by outlawing objects is doomed to fail.

Look at how ineffective drugs laws have been. How can anyone with more than two working brain cells think gun laws impact criminal behavior? Criminals will ALWAYS have access to guns. Until such time the police use Star Trek matter transporters, law abiding citizens will need guns to protect themselves.

No good. That is the reason you have to protect yourself even at the cost of breaking the law! I know that sounds bad, but it is the truth. Ask Bush to help you!

absolutely nothing...
in our rush to legislate more and more and pass laws which will regulate *every* aspect of our lives we forget we have gun control laws, which if enforced properly, would eliminate a lot of problems we face. We forge tit is us and not laws which bear responsibility for our behavior...
1. education, meaning you *can* buy a gun, does not mean you indeed should...
2. plain, triple-distilled stupidity (two examples which make me cry (one in the state I live). Mother living with her 4 year old daughter decides to have loded shotgun propped up against the wall of her bedroom. She gets out of the shower and sees the door move... she grabs the shotgun and fires through the door killing her daughter instantly. Louisiana, a Japanese exchange student on his way to the prom gets lost and decides to ask for directions. He wears a white tuxedo and a bowtie (usual outfit preferred by burglars). He stops at a house, knocks at the door and attempts to ask for directions, he gets shot in the chest with a .357 mag from 2 feet. I do not have to tell you what happened. The woman who shot him walked free.
3. Absence of guidance and parents in the lives of young people, anything goes, as long as they get out of their hair.

We need to enforce what we have, educate, and put real effort into educating and guiding our children, they are our future...

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Every time there is a shooting here we hear "Gun Laws"
They do stuff all!
When was the last time a crime was committed with a legal, registered gun!

remember the bad guys do not abide by the gun laws -- only legal people abide by the gun laws -- and to answe ur question... guns don't hurt/injure people -- the one pullin the trigger is the one that injures/hurts people.
