Sadly, febreeze does not take away odor, it really only masks it. Try sprinkling baking soda on the carpets overnight and then vaccuuming it up in the morning. If you're into florally scents, Glade sells a great product with baking soda that's scented. I think it's called carpet odor eliminator, it comes in a blue tube, and sprinkles out. That will at least help a little since baking soda absorbs foul odors. You can even open a couple of boxes, and hide them in discreet areas around the house to maintain the fresh smell.....good luck!

Close the room up completely. Put a coffee maker in the room and fill coffee maker with vinegar( this will not hurt the coffee maker and will clean that too) Turn on coffee maker and close the door to the room. Dont open the door for at least two hours for maximum effect. The smell of vinegar will go away quickly. If this doesnt work you may have to remove the carpet, and the wallpaper( if you like the wall paper however you could put wall paper sealer on it -that would stop the odor and not change the rooms look, cushions on the couch can be cleaned with fabric cleaners and that should work.
Make sure you rinse your coffee maker two or three time with plain water after using to refresh room.

I agree with most of the people on here... Sprinkle the carpets with baking soda and leave it on AT LEAST 24 hours, if not more... Open the windows and wash everything is the room... The walls, the windows and doors.... If there's furniture in the room give it a good wipe down with some vinegar water.. Don't saturate just wipe down with a slightly damp cloth... If you have window treatements wash those as well... Even sprinkle the closet floor with baking soda...I used a product called ZORBEX in can be found at WALGREENS/LOWE'S it works really well, it's not a cover up it kills the bacteria... If it worked on dog pee it should work on "stentch". You still may have to rent a carpet cleaner, but it should help with the odor.. Good luck

What i like to do when the house smells really bad is to take a sock, fill it up with flowers, and put it all over the house. If that doesn't work, get your carpets clean it will take away the odor. If you are renting the place, tell the owner about it. If that doesn't work, keep opening the windows and spraying febreeze. The smell Will go away sometime or another.

Well, when I moved in my house, the bathrooms had carpet, and we were pretty sure that the previous homeowners owned cats that went to the bathroom on the carpet. So, very very smelly. We tried carpet cleaners, Febreze, and nothing worked. I'm not sure if you're going to want to, since you're just subletting, but you may have to replace anything causing the odor.

Try cleaning your walls with TSP (in the paint section). I just cleaned my wood panelling with it and I couldnt believe how much dirt it removed (Check to see if it is ok to use on wallpaper). If you cant remove the carpeting I would sprinkly baking powder on the carpet and let it sit for about 24 hours and vaccum. Then I would hire someone to come and clean the carpets (for a big job like that I wouldnt rely on a rug doctor or something else that you would do yourself.)
It never fails to amaze me the conditions that people will live in... Good luck!

ODOBAN. You can get it at Wal-Mart over by the Febreeze. It is cheaper too. Unlike Febreeze, it doesn't mask the smell but kills the bacteria that causes it so it doesn't come back. I use it on everything from my drapes and carpet to bathroom tile and my microfiber furniture.

Tear out the carpet and cushings. Tear down the wallpaper. Thats the only way to get it out.

You have a legal right to expect a livable space when renting. You need to talk to the landlord, and suggest small claims court, if he won't fix the problem. It could be sewer gas (which can be fatal) getting into the apartment.
