I hated the shot. I had all kinds of side effects that made me absolutely miserable. I gained tons of weight (over 40 lbs total) even though I didn't change my eating or exercise habits. I lost hair by the handful. My skin was awful. My period was very erratic (I would bleed for about 1 week every 3 months, but I never know when it would show up). My friend bled for all but one week every 3 months, though. I was always very moody and I got depressed easily. I started getting horrible headaches. I had no sex drive. All in all, it put a huge strain on my relationship.

It has now been shown that the shot seriously affects your blood-calcium levels, too. It can thin your bones and lead to early osteoporosis. It is non-reversible, too. Once the damage is done, it is permanent.

I would suggest you talk with your doctor to find a different form of birth control. These side effects are very common (over 75% notice weight gain, for instance), can be dangerous, and they last as long as the drug is in your system (which can take over 6 months to leave just with one shot). They can also affect future fertility.

Good luck!

Google depo provera lawsuit, check out the reviews in the first link I posted.

Depo, for MANY women, have horrible side affects.

I was on it for four years and am so glad I'm OFF of it. I had many horrid side affects and after four years, I realized that it was the depo and not me, especially after reading all the reviews in that first link.

I immediately got OFF depo, and am now on Kariva (pill). With Kariva, I've had NO side affects at all.

Now my only worry is the ability to conceive. I know of women who got pregnant ON depo, immediately after depo. I also know some had to see a fertility specialist in order to conceive. I only hope I'm one that doesn't need to see a specialist.

There ARE people who have had no complications on this drug, but they are so few and far between that I do not think this drug is worth the risk. I'm appalled its still on the market and being administered.
