Freedom does not exist. If a man wants to murder someone, should he be FREE to do so? To stop him is to deny him his freedom - but equally the man he wishes to murder's freedom is denied, because he wants to live.

Equally, a business owner believes he should be free to pay his workers what he wishes. He wishes to pay them $2 an hour. The workers want to be free to earn a living wage. Their freedom is curtailed by his $2 an hour policy. Bring in a minimum wage and the employer's freedom to dictate his wages is curtailed.

Therefore all perceptions of freedom are relative. What therefore matters is the restriction of those freedoms that are harmful to society. What that definition is is of course different for every person - some believe guns are harmful to society, others believe ABSENCE of guns is harmful to society. This is unsolvable by using the "freedom" argument, because both sides will believe their freedom is being taken away; the former their freedom to live safely, the second their freedom to defend themselves.

It is therefore necesary to come up with other arguments to defend what may otherwise be held under the blanket of freedom.

What freedom do the liberals take away, other than "freedom to pay less taxes for the public good" (I realize "public good" is arguable) and "freedom to pay people less than a living wage?" In contrast, the conservatives seem to be against teaching sex-ed, against even first-term abortions, against any solution for illegal immigration outside of deportation, against allowing monogomous adults to make a legal life commitment, against allowing a husband to make the call on whether his comatose wife should be taken off a respirator. As long as we're talking freedom, I just don't understand where your question is coming from.

Oh, wait. Liberals are also against civilians stockpiling fully automatic weaponry. Is that it?

Freedom? From what? Responsibility?

Liberals also expect the government to control and pay for everything.

Because Liberals always seem to know what is best for us:
1) They put higher taxes on cigarettes.
2) They legislate so we have to wear a helmet on a bicycle.
3) They legislate so we have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle.
4) They have no smoking cities.
The list goes on and on. Liberals just think they are smarter than the rest of the population and they will dictate what is best for us. And if you are not a smoker and think all of their smoking ideas are great, think again. Whatever it is that you do, they might come after you next. Are you overweight? Do you like beer? Do you like alcohol? Cigarettes were just the first.

Can't answer this. WAY too broad. Try again, please. Site some evidence or other debatable information. This is an opinion piece asking for an opinion, presenting no facts to back up the opinion.
