As an Englishman who is in the USA and on the verge of ownership of an American company i would like to ask the above.
It is of great concern that the natives in the USA seem to be alarmingy easy to wind up and most do not understand humour.Do you think i shoud sack all of the Americans and bring some British people over.At least we could get drunk after work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Careful Sid...get the Yanks too wound up, and they are likely to give you another Yorktown.

How? You can't find a decent beer, and they look at you funny if you don't want it cold!

I've read your previous posts, of course.

We love free speech! We are very attached to it. We love debate (although some have no idea of the basic principles of debate, let alone the premises, conclusions, etc. of logic).

However, there is also a tendency for people to forget the difference between their ideas and their self-image. They mistake the two, and take any attack on their ideas as a personal attack. It's silly, but common.

Good luck with your efforts.

The thing is THEY DO UNDERSTAND HUMOUR.

Look at the complex layers of "The Simpsons" and of course what could be funnier than voting a trained chimp to run their country ????

I think that you should sack some of them especially the one who can do Health & Safety / Facilities / IT & Web design / Admin work...........

WAIT A MINUTE - THOSE ARE ALL THE SKILLS I HAVE (Plus I'm British AND have a sense of humour) RUDDY HELL - YOU SHOULD EMPLOY ME !!!!!!!

(One drawback - I don't drink & I am a bit of a nerd, I also have a couple of 'LIFE OBSTICLES' in the shape of my wife & child - Still sure we can sort those minor details out - WHEN DO I START ??????)

Alot of Americans are highly oppinated, and terified of being made to look bad or stupid. so they go on the offence. not all Americans are like that though. I guess it depends on where you are. ^.^ just tell em to chill out and that you were joking. that should embarass em. or make them angry... you could point out that they're always on the offence, don't make the generalization that all americans are like that though that would make the people mad. oh and alot of Americans do get drunk after work.

I think maybe schoolboy humour is more prominent in British society. Maybe they aren't used to the constant jabs and sarcasm that we have to put up with from our mates!

Plus there is the fact that lately everyone in the world has been criticising USA for everything and anything. We seem to have gotten away with our involvement in such affairs. I'd be defensive if I were American!

Because next to us, the British barely seem to have a pulse?

Okay, I'm KIDDING. I've seen soccer/football fans! But really--this business trip of yours sure has lasted awhile, and I don't know why you'd want to buy "an American country," as unimpressed as you claim to be with the citizens....

At it again with our American cousins? ha ha! You make me laugh Sid.
Right! I off to buy a toothbrush and some toothpaste then I going to call the Russian ambassador to give him my appreciation for saving our asses during the second world war.

Don't let yahoo answers be your guide to Americans- you get the extremes here. If you're in a large city, it shouldn't be too hard to find others like yourself...
