How did this make you feel and do you feel that it truly works. I am considering going for a Reiki healing and would like to even become a healer. I would also like to take my mother for a healing because she is overweight and I think this might help her to heal her mindset and any physical problems that may be causing this.

I did have a friend use this type of spiritual energy manipulation to make me feel warmer when I was chilly one evening while on vacation in England, and I immediately felt a mild breeze stir up around me. However, I do not believe that it legitimately works in the sense that you are asking. If the person believes that the Reiki will work, then it does to a limited extent, purely due to the power of positive thinking, a phenomenon similar to the placebo effect. For any serious physical or mental disorder, it is important to go to a medical professional.

Yeah, the psuedo scienctific explainations lured me to look into Reiki before. I had a friend in college who was a Reiki Master. I asked her how long it took for her to reach that level, and she said....get this... 4 months.
Ok, from there it all kind of fell apart. There is no change in the magnetic propeties in the hands of a Reiki healer, this has been proven.
The only thing that happens in Reiki, is you sense the heat from the other persons hand near your body. That is it.
Any healing would have happened without the Reiki, which is where the real scam comes in. Everybody who heals naturally after Reiki treatment believes it was the Reiki that did it. Even if they are taking medication or getting medical treatment. They will credit the Reiki, not the doctor. Therefore, you will find no studies that support Reiki, unless they are based on testamonial evidence. There is tons of testamonial evidence.

My final conclusion is, your better off putting magnets on your ears and wrists. Its a lot cheaper, and it will accomplish the same thing.... nothing.

edit: Unity's answer below is exactly what i mean by psuedo-science. Vibratory levels and energy fields...hahaha. How come instuments meant to detect vibrations and energy fields can't pick this stuff up?

I have been a Reiki master for over 5 years. Reiki is a subtle energy that does have positive effects for healing emotional, spiritual and physical issues. There have been studies completed by Harvard and other medical schools to confirm that it is a great complementary medicine that assists people to heal faster after surgery, require less pain medication because they are less stressed out after surgery and their body is in less pain.

I have effectively used Reiki to help others heal from sports injuries, surgeries and illnesses much faster than if they had not received healing. I have had Reiki and other healing methods used on me when I severly broke my leg and ankle in several places, my doctor told me that I would not be able to walk again without a cane, but now I do not even need to use a cane and walk without anyone really being able to tell I ever had a problem.

It depends on the person who works on you. Some might not be as good at channeling the energy as others will. I've been worked on by several people and sometimes I've felt nothing, while other times I felt a great deal. I've studied it, but I felt it didn't work that well with me. But I do know people that have success with it.

What some don't understand is that Reiki works on your energy field, so it can be very subtle.

You might see if anyone does a share in you area. Its when a few people get together and work on each other. Some allow people to come and experience it for free.
Since its your first time, I wouldn't go to someone that charges a lot.

You might also check for someone who works with Quantum Touch. It works more on the physical level and can work a lot faster. And you can usually feel it more than with Reiki.

I sought out Reiki when I was looking for alternative treatments for a chronic illness that allopathic medicine had not been able to lend much aid to. I had been having regular aromatherapy massages, acupuncture, and I decided to try energetic medicine. There was a Reiki practitioner at the health center that I went to and so I booked an appointment. It changed my life. On the surface it was a deeply relaxing, calming, rejuvenating and nurturing experience. Then that feeling of centeredness stayed with me for nearly a week afterwards. Considering that one of the aspects of my illness was anxiety that I took a sedative for multiple times daily, and that it was almost completely alleviated in that week afterwards - I was impressed. I also found that I rested more, thought more clearly, and was able to think through issues that would normally have caused me great stress. I went back weekly for several months, and within 4 week of my first appointment had begun researching training options. I am now a Usui Reiki Master-Teacher, and have been practicing for nearly 8 years. I've found it to be an invaluable tool for personal healing and development. As to your mother's case, the Reiki will likely be of great aid - if she is willing to take responsibility for working through whatever issues may arise. I find many people who seek out Reiki end up not being willing to face their deeper shadows. However, if one is ready than Reiki will be deeply transformative on the mental/emotional/spiritual levels, as well as helping in physical healing. Also you must realize that one session is not going to fix anything. As with any medical treatment you need to be prepared to stick with a regular treatment plan which involves repeated healing sessions. Just as in chiropractic, acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, etc - one session will not do much good. Just as taking one days worth of antibiotics will not cure you. As a stress-management tool, Reiki can work wonders on an "as needed" basis, however for deep and lasting healing you need to be willing to commit to weekly treatments - your Reiki Master can help you determine how long these frequent treatments need to be before tapering back. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly. Many blessings.

Like hypnotism, Reiki only heals you to the degree to which you can heal yourself through the power of suggestion.

Well if you want to waste your time and energy go ahead. But in reality it is nothing more than superstitious nonsense. It is not based in any medical science. If you want someone standing over you chanting and acting like a complete moron and that doesn't bother you, then go ahead. It is a scam therapy and the people who practice it are scam healers looking for gullible people to shell out some cash in their directions. It borders on devil worship, by the way.

I truly hope that your training works out, there is nothing that world needs more than another crack pot. Gee, for all of the wacko healers out there, why haven't you cured cancer yet?
While I am at it, for all of you who are in touch with the spirit world, why haven't you told us the secret behind cold fusion? For that matter... awww, who am I kidding? Do I need to tell you you are an idiot.
Feel free to contact me, and tell me why you are not an idiot. I'll be sure to include it on my site.
