Yorkshire shouldn't be given devolution.

Yorkshire should be given independence. A nation state! Maybe a president, or King of Yorkshire.

Hey, never mind Yorkshire, its big enough to look after itself. What about Kirkheaton in Huddersfield, that place should have a parliament like Scotland or Britain. We need people to look after us in Kirkheaton on matters such as, are there enough chippies?, what about the sheep?

Lets get serious, parliaments are for the little people in little towns and villages - not for the likes of Scotland and Britain.

Strangely enough this was (kind of) proposed. Northwest england and the northeast, yorkshire and the humber were supposed to have their own devolved parliaments, though the idea wasn't especially popular - including with people who didn't see why the north should have 2 parliaments wheras the south only had one.

This led rise (or helped bring notoriety to) a movement arguing for the devolution of "wessex" - Berkshire, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire (presumably meaning Cornwall will be a seperate entity in its own right), though the government weren't discussing this.

I'm not sure how well the partitioning of our country into states works. There are definately some issues to be resolved - such as the question as to whether scottish MPs should be allowed to vote on issues that only affect England (and possibly Wales)

I think the problem there is that you would need to be recognised as an independant state, I think that one of 2 things would happen in the event of york declaring independance.

1. The british would invade.....No cheaper housing than that taken by force. or we could just blockade york and starve them out, no invasion necessary, just move in :)

2. The British nation Thinks hmmmmm......can we really do without york?..........Then with a universal Yes, York drops off the map..and has to fend for itself.

PS I think the propper use of York would be to turn it into a giant windfarm, as whenever I have had to go there it has aways been decidedly.......inclement

ha ha ha hahaar, eeeeby gum. we are not falling for it again are we. dust thee not realise that is exactly what the european
union want. to break england up into little areas, probably treating one area better than anouther just to keep us at each outhers throughts, perfectly devided and e,u. ruled....however,
if you mean self rule out of europe as the free land of yorkshire thats different, not even scotland is free from e.u. yet
if its the former forget it, if its the latter go for it.

Yes let's destroy Britain so that we become nice little bite sized chunks that Brussels can gobble up easily. I've always wanted to be ruled by the Germans and the French.
