Facts are many but truth is only one, it has been said. Then this is also a fact that we cannot conceive anything in the entirety of existence; to know anything we have to know its characteristics, or distinctive qualities, due to which a thing is a thing. These qualities, or characteristics, of a thing are the facts about that thing. What, for instance, is an apple? We could never be able to know, or define, if we do not know have facts about an apple to form the language for our thoughts and expression: the colour, the shape, the size, the taste, the aroma and the texture all are the fact of the truth of an apple.

Facts, in this sense, are the basic units, or building blocks, of knowledge in our comprehension that vary for the specific purposes in our need to know things: the Mood, for instance, is know by different fact by scientist than it is known by a fisher man on sea. There is no limit how fine facts can be about anything, all facts are arbitrary: often one needs to see only a part of a desert however there might my countless grains of sand in that part, each with its own unique shape and size, and, however wide the rest of the desert might be.

A fact is that which can be analytically deconstructed using maths or logic. If we agree on the sequence of numbers then it is a fct that 2+2=4 as it can be shown that two sets of 1+1 is the same as 1+1+1+1. I subscribe to Karl Popper's view that non-analytic statements can never be an authentic fact and only at best be the least wrong answer (just as Einstein's concept of gravity is less wrong than Newton's which was less wrong than Aristotle's etc.).

In philosophical terms:

That which can be witnessed or evidenced to be true no matter the subjective or objective opinions of outside forces that have not witnessed or evidenced. For example, if someone truly witnessed the sky to be red it is then a factual statement even if the next person sees blue sky due to weather changes. It is a fact that the sky is red for that first witness as well as a fact that the sky is blue for the second witness.

In grammar usage:

Something that actually exists; reality; truth; something known to exist or to have happened; a truth known by actual experience or observation; something known to be true; something said to be true or supposed to have happened.

That which is true and can be found to be true by using logic in any of its' many facets. These facets could be mathematical (1+1=2 ; but I have seen this proven untrue), philosophical (but philosphy in and of itself is an opinion and thus probably not factual), geographical (the USA is west of the UK), or many others.

It seems in this life very few things can be said to be true. The world was once flat - not anymore. The earth was the center of the universe - nope. Love - yeah right. Unless proven otherwise, what you hold to be true in your heart is indeed fact.
