Does anyone know of any companies, professional ones, that publish poetry and the author gets a profit?

Thanks!

Hi Ali,

lulu.com, iUniverse.com and others are considered self-publishing or vanity presses, at best. You can do that if you want, it's your money and it will not help you one iota as far as building a literary reputation for yourself, in fact, it might actually hurt it. Most poetry publications by legit publishers do not see much if any profit and they do for the love of the art or out of a sense of obligation to the art. The author makes money by buying their books at a discounted rate and selling the books at readings. Although that seems like a losing proposition, if you are good at it and give enough readings in a year, you could earn an modest augmentation to your day-job salary.
The trick is getting a book published by a legit press. You need to publish about 30 to 50 percent of that manuscript in magazines with some street credit. So it's not an overnight thing, by any stretch of the imagination.

Good luck!

The most ideal company would be Xlibris. Many authors I know are very happy with how professional Xlibris is.

There is so much that Xlibris can offer you if you want to publish a poetry book. They have excellent print quality especially for full-color books. If you self-publish your poetry book with them, you get to retain all the rights to your book and they have an open-ended contract. If you choose to move out or move on to traditional publishing, you can take your work with you. They are the only POD company offering two rounds of qualification and approval before publication complete and a money-back guarantee up to author copy stage. With regards to distribution, they provide authorswith affordable and quality marketing services that open the marketplace of published books to everyone. Your book will be distributed through Ingram, and made available at Barnes and Noble, Borders and Amazon.

conceitedness presses making use of print on call for technologies act as printers besides as sellers of help centers for authors fascinated in self-publishing. respected companies of this sort are often marked via sparkling settlement words, loss of intense expenses, retail expenditures such as those from advertisement printers, loss of rigidity to purchase "greater suitable" centers, contracts which do not declare unique rights to the artwork being revealed (nevertheless one may be annoying pressed to locate a valid writer prepared to place out a competing version, making non-exclusivity meaningless) ---- The classic "self-writer" writes, edits, markets and promotes the e book themselves, in step with a printer basically for quite printing and binding. greater at the instant, agencies have presented their centers to act as a style of agent between the author and a small printing operation. --- I say all of this to declare i don't think of that most of the approaches indexed are 'respected' publishing means via classic print publishers and could do little to get you recognised via literary brokers or editors. --- the marketplace for poetry is likewise a small one. evaluate what share books of poems you and your pals have offered in the final 300 and sixty 5 days written via unknown authors. i will fantastically much assure between you you have written greater poetry than you have examine. it extremely is a proper loose form of expression. --- i'm not attempting to deter you yet supply you with greater preparation on the industry than merely the buzz of 'on the spot yet short lived gratification' fantastically much like a drug. --- it is large to have your artwork obtainable for others to verify and if getting funds isn't your objective then those are wonderful innovations yet so as to make this a occupation determination you ought to pass approximately this in a wiser way.
