Of course! Its the time to rush to the toilet, queue up to have the favourite bowl of noodles, play a quick round of marbles. Its the best part of my school life.

Most U.S. schools have cut down on, and cut out recess time and I think it is a travesty. My children, ages 8 and 6, get 20 minutes of recess a day, which is not enough specifically for my son who has adhd. While I do not think that the lack of recess time causes adhd, I do think that some kids whose condition isn't very severe could deal with it with more exercise rather than medication if only the schools would budget in the time for them to do so.

If you are referring to recess in conventional school settings it is not only important it is necessary.
Children who are not allowed to run of their energy, and take breaks regularly cannot focus on their work, and become very distracted, and disruptive.
School would do well to built in long recesses, and plenty of PE, and they would see their behavior, and learning problems in the classrooms magically disappear.
