It's just a question of degree. Christian fundamentalists want society to turn back the clock 100 years, Moslem fundamentalists want to turn it back 1000 years.

Christian fundamentalists no longer apply outdated parts of their holy text to their lives. They apply the general message, but I think the last public stoning was some time ago.
The number of people who still claim that EVERY single part of the Bible is true and must be applied today is a very tiny minority of Christianity.
Islamic fundamentalists ARE those who claim that every single part of their holy texts are true and MUST be applied today. They are the vast majority of Islam.
It wouldn't be so much of a problem, except that most people have never read the Quran and other holy texts of Islam (I have, and encourage others to read pre-911 translations).
The terrorists aren't the one's who are out of touch with Islamic basics. They are the heroes of the piece. They are the martyrs, the holy warriors. That is why the outcry is so small. It is a tiny minority that sees these acts as wrong.
More, lying to unbelievers is allowed in Islam, and the theme is repeated many times.
Read the quotes from the website below, but please go read them in context after finding them. There are many sites that have free downloads of these texts, and it is important for you to both see both sides of things, but also be able to discount the cry of, "but it isn't in context" which is used any time a piece is disagreeable no matter how much context you add.
Keep speaking up, everyone.
Oh, I want Islam to survive. There is much beauty and wisdom to Islam. But they have to accept free speech and religious tolerance if they expect equal treatment to Christianity. Oh, Christians whine a lot, but they won't kill you because you leave their religion.

The critical difference is that Christian fundamentalists desire to fulfill what's known as the Great Commission, which is Jesus' last message to believers. Basically, "go out into all the world, preach the good news and make disciples of all peoples." In other words, peaceful evangelism.
Muslim fundamentalists have a different 'calling'. The Koran says to, "Fight and slay (kill) the infidel (unbeliever in Allah), wherever you find him. Lay in wait for him in every stratagem of war."
Hope that puts things into perspective for you.

Whenever a Christian commits an act of violence in the name of his God (which is quite rare in comparison to Islamists) there is widespread Christian condemnation of the act and the person. Whenever a Muslim commits an act of violence in the name of their God (which is quite frequent throughout history and getting more and more frequent as of late) there is absolutely no Muslim condemnation of the act or person. That is the differnce. Also, Christianity was spread by peaceful, non-violent means, whereas Islam was spread by violence, subjugation, and dhimmitude.

The Christians haven't gotten around to blowing too many people up yet.
But militant fundamentalist Christianity is here today, and they have fetishisms for guns and revolution and whatnot so I say time may tell.
Otherwise not too much, a few liturgical quibbles but otherwise, disturbingly little.

Christian fundamentalists push their agenda through legislation, community service and media outlets. Muslim's through force and fear.
They are VERY much the same in that BOTH have lost the true messages of Jesus and Mohammad. (Keep in mind they both worship the same God). Both taught nonviolence, acceptance and compassion. Neither pushed their agenda through force.
