...if you want some gut-busting laughs, amongst the zombie horror proceedings, might I recommend the most excellent and over-the-top campy living-dead comedy, "Fido", which recently ended it's short theatrical run across the U.S. (though perhaps, it might STILL be in your area).
...set in a suburban, almost 'Leave It to Beaver' like setting (the town's called Willard, which should be familiar to "Night of the Living Dead" devotees), and starring Carrie Ann Moss (...yes, from the "Matrix" films!!), "Fido" takes what has become a most tiring horror genre (...it's getting to the point where zombie movies are getting made as prolifically as the 'slasher' movies were, in the '80's), and gives it a most macabre tongue-in-cheek turn on it's ear...
I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that "Fido" DOES take a cue from an idea inspired by director George Romero's original unfilmed storyline for "Day of the Dead", whereby society wages (and appearingly wins) a war against the ever-increasing zombie population; after conquering the raging and seemingly viral menace (shown in a hilarious flashback sequence, purposely made to look like one of those old and grainy '50's classroom science films), it comes right down to figuring out how to control and use the surviving zombie population. In "Fido", in domesticating the zombie for social service, they indeed figure out a unique way to control them, asd well as their hunger, but the idea proves not to be absolutely sure-fire, trustworthy, and ultimately (and hilariously) the creatures re-assume their most unhealthy appitites...
A young boy, whose best friend is the family's recent domesticated undead acquisition and obediant servent, attempts to cover up the sudden and unexpected voraciously carnivorous activity of his family's lumbering zombie valet...with most hilarious results!!!
...be of good cheer!!! The horror/comedy "Fido" is slated for release on DVD, around the October timeframe...
